Please excuse my memory on this but when do we lose Steven Drew? Cot's shows his deal over in 09. Is he arbitration elligible then or a FA?

As long as I'm asking questions, is there a link to the rules on arbitration elligibility. I'm just trying to map out our prospective budget over the next few years and want to map out when our players will get expensive.

Like you said, I believe he's contract runs through 2009, but he will still be arbitration eligible for two more years. Actually, I hope we don't loose him for his entire career along with Chris Young and Brandon Webb. Like Diamondbacks version of Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, and Mariano Rivera. Lol.

Any player needs 6 full years of major league service before he can become a free agent. Drew will be under AZ's control through the end of 2012 season, unless the Dbacks release, non-tender or trade him.

Does the fact that he was given a "major league contract" affect his service clock at all?

no. it meant he was added to the 40 man roster, which has its benefit nonetheless. it's only active time on the 25 man roster (and on the DL) that counts.

being added to the 40 man roster starts your options; once you're on the 40 man roster, you can only be in the minors for 3 years before the team has to pass you thru waivers to send you to the minors. it also gives you much better health insurance, benefits, social security, pension, the works.

but it does not start your service clock.

Awesome. I thought that I had heard that the D-backs lost him after 2009, so this is very good news.

We control him through '12? That's frickin awesome. He won't be cheap arb wise, but if that's the case he'll return quite a bit in a trade.

We'll control Drew, Quentin, Young and Montero (assuming the makes the roster in 07) through 2012. Jackson through 2011.

Any guesses as to what CJ, Q & Young will cost in 08-10?

From my rough guesses so far, it looks like we should have an extra 15MM each year to address pitching.

I think we can expect the Dbacks to sign them to long(er) term deals pretty soon, so it's really hard to say what they'll cost.

Look at the Tracy deal, add 10% increase per year, that might help.

Here is the cots site for the dbacks

http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/arizona-diamondbacks_10.html

You may have to add one year to the service time since it is based on the 2006 book. Otherwise, except for super two's, you should be able figure out when a player is arb elible. lev is right on with his standards.
