Byrnes laid out the blueprint for the offseason pretty clearly in This Article of Oct. 3rd

It would be pretty timely to review this again now, as I am pretty sure that JB told us all clearly exactly what he is going to do and how he is going to do it.

So I guess we can expect to see at least one starting position player change. I think it's fairly reasonable to expect that the following players will remain:

Drew
Young
Quentin
Snyder/Montero (although they could get a PV backup and start Montero in AAA)
Hudson

That leaves Byrnes, Jackson, and Tracy. It HAS to be Byrnes. He's the only one that doesn't have a chance in hell to be league average as his position and he's the most expensive. With this insane market, his value must be pretty damn high right now.

But then the price for any kind of hitter like Josh was talking about is not going to be cheap either.

I wonder who he had in mind.......clearly not a big homerun hitter.....must be some average, doubles guy...

hey, I hear Luis Gonzalez is a free agent. Razz

Timely Article shoe.

I read this before, but good to review now.
I guess JB will go after another BAT and Closer, probably.

Considering how wild our closers were at times this season.
We can trade Julio, Lyon, Eric Byrnes.

I have just been assuming that Julio wold be traded no matter what. I didn't even put him on my "payroll speculation" roster....he is going to be too expensive next year.

nice link, shoewiz. thanks for bringing it back up...

if you read the article, and you think "trade EByrnes for FGarcia", your offseason is done. you can pack up and call it a winter...

then you'll just have to start thinking about which ones of your three starters you want to extend beyond next year, and for how much...

Do you think there is ANY WAY to pry Lincecum out of the Giants?

Is that just a wet dream?

well, i'd lean toward the "wet dream" part... especially since the giants are about to sign dave roberts...

i say package eric byrnes, julio and enrique to the rockies for jennings and ian stewart.

I have a feeling that there is no way Byrnes goes back to Colorado....

I bet he was moved out of there quickly because he does not fit in at all with their "Club Culture"....if you know what I mean.

But José Mesa did? Confused

Of course his option for 2007 was declined earlier this month.

Lincecum was drafted in 2006. SF can't even trade him until they have him for a year, correct?

I knew exactly what you were talking about Shoewizard. There is a lot I could say about that article but this isn't the place for me to be disrespectful of peoples' beliefs. I'll just toss this in:

Quote:
"You look at things that have happened to us this year," O'Dowd says. "You look at some of the moves we made and didn't make. You look at some of the games we're winning. Those aren't just a coincidence. God has definitely had a hand in this."
