and, for the gonzo into bonds debate, we ought to look at defense, too.

gonzo scored a +2 by some miracle in dial's numbers.

bonds was a flat 0. they're not that far off of each other...

but how would they spin it? after grimlseygate, how would the make the bonds announcement with a straight face?! Laughing

I don't think the fans, STH's especially, will bite at the Garcia carrot Byrnes may dangle to lure fan interest. They remember the Ortiz disaster too fondly.

To put this Bonds thing to rest, there is not a sole on this board who thinks it could ever happen.

The point of the story were that I'd rather waste our 10MM salary space this year than to use it and waste prospects. If the use of Bonds in the story disturbs you then relax because it's going to happen right after the Tigers trade us straight up Estrada for Bonderman.

Who exactly are you referring too to "relax"? Seems most line of thought on the Bonds discussion is just that, discussion.

>shrugs< Maybe I'm missing a hidden clue in this thread somewhere? Rolling Eyes

Anyways, carry on Tmar

BC it had seemed to have struck a cord with Lee.

I think he had thought that I was seriously advocating such a direction vs pointing out that there would be some logic in it, and agreeably some risks.

Quote:
Keith Foulke-R- Red Sox Nov. 10 - 1:51 pm et

Keith Foulke has declined his $3.75 million player option to remain with the Red Sox in 2007.
Foulke was already getting $1.5 million because the Red Sox declined his $7.5 million team option. He either thinks he can do better on the open market or he's just sick of Boston and wants out. Foulke lives in Arizona, so he might be a fit for the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers, Giants and A's are some West Coast teams that could also have some interest. The Red Sox might use the additional money in a bid for Eric Gagne.

Yeah, no way we should take a risk on a guy that throws 1 inning. That $4Mil would be better put towards the $8-12Mil it'll take to sign a starter.

Hey, I was just the messenger. Here's another:

Quote:
Keith Foulke-R- Red Sox Nov. 11 - 10:39 am et

Keith Foulke wants to pitch close to his Arizona home after becoming a free agent Friday, and the Diamondbacks will consider him.
"I think we would have to look into it," D'Backs GM Josh Byrnes said. "We're always looking for good players at good value." There's no chance Foulke will re-sign with Boston following his decision to decline his player option.

I just don't see it. It's got to be a courtesy consideration, from they're time together in BOS. He's an extreme fly ball pitcher and lefties pimp slap him all over the place. Etc.

Am I missing something? Confused

I haven't been on this site much and seem naive. But, is everyone
pulling everyone's elses leg about signing Bonds? He's expensive,
talent was wasted years ago, and, he's a worthless human being.

Tell me I'm just the new kid on the block and that everyone is just
joking.

Here is the link on Florida GM winter meetings

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6165654

Quote:

The Pirates are another club that could trade a starting pitcher; their rotation includes three left-handers —Zach Duke, Paul Maholm and Tom Gorzelanny — with less than two years of service time.
Such pitchers are immensely coveted, but difficult to part with. The Pirates would prefer to move a reliever — their three left-handed relief specialists include closer Mike Gonzalez. But starters have greater trade value.

The Pirates, who want to add a left-handed hitting slugger at right field or first base, surely would be tempted if they could acquire such a bat — the Diamondbacks' Chad Tracy, for example — for one of their starting pitchers.

I don't hate the idea of a Gorzelanny trade, but not for Tracy straight up. We would need to get more.

I don't know how much more you could get for tracy. Gorzelanny is a pretty darn good prospect.

Although i admit i havnt seen much of Gorz - I am thinking that he is pretty solid - He is lefty, Medium/hard throwing, good slider, seems to induce GBs vs Ks... I dont have a feeling about value vs tracy... i am worried that this would be selling low on tracy, and he would go back to 2005 #s after he left.. Who would play 3rd?

Brian Barden can play 3rd.
He has 16 HR's, 96 RBI and .298 avg in AAA tuscon.

Not bad

I think Tracy will bounce back and have a good '07. I have absolutely nothing to base this on other than intuition (which has let me down in the past) but call me a believer.
