I just gave you the reasons.
1.) You are already down in the count 2-1....it's a hitters count
2.) Hawpe is a lefty, spillbough is a righty. RHP vs. RHB > RHP vs LHB
3.) You set up an additional force at second base...the runner on first does not matter.
4.) You don't put on a stupid shift with the winning run on 3rd.
SLOW reaction by Melvin. Once he fell behind 2-1...you just walk him there an move on to Spillbough, the RIGHTY

Oh...and just for the record...hawpe is a .300 hitter....
So is Spillbough...but lefty/righty matchups aside...do you really think spillbough is a bretter hitter than Hawpe????
Seriously...the "strikeouts machine" comment makes no sense or has any relevance.
What are the odds of striking him out when he is up in the count 2-1?
THINK

So....not too much in the way of praise for Claudio Vargas.

Vargas had a solid outing tonight.
I was also one that wanted to see Cruz remain in the rotation.

"I’m old school and I understand (Mesa) was mad after giving up the home run to Byrnes," Gonzalez said. "I’m bothered at where he hit me. Hit me below the waist and I’m OK with it."

Good news for Old School fans. Old School 2 is coming. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are supposed to start a rival frat. Hilarity ensues. |

Awesome. Adding Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson to that mix would make it over the top.
What a heartbreaker. So was it the humidor that helped Claudio or do you think he finally got hte message that Cruz is itching to take his job?
