According to MLB.com the Dodgers completed a one year 7 million dollar deal with Gonzol. The deal should be announced later today.

Gonzo, AZ's Trojan Horse in the LAD Clubhouse. Attaboy, Gonzo.
Now spend all of the offseason and next year bitching how LA needs more proven veterans on the roster. |

In reality, I am sure he will have no troubles in the clubhouse. Gonzo has always been a popular guy among players. He's a jokester and a prankster, and as much as in denial as he was here regarding his situation and his deteriorating skills, he is smart enough to know he is not "the man" in LA, but a piece, and a one year rental piece at that.
I know you know all this, but I am just pointing out for everyone that attitude and "clubhouse" wise, LA is likely to get the "good Gonzo", not the "bad Gonzo" we saw the last couple of years.
Of course he will be lucky to put up a .750 OPS in LA, but will probably play consistently enough to remain in the lineup. That is a good thing for the Diamondbacks. Their OF of Gonzo/Pierre/Either has the potential to really really suck.

I think the Diamondbacks should have another Gonzo appreciation day every home game they host the Dodgers. When Gonzo strikes out looking on a Doug Davis cutter, they could stop the game and give the ball to Jerry Colangelo. The fans could wildly aplaud, and the scoreboard could flash "Gonzo! Gonzo! Gonzo!" When Gonzo fails to throw out a runner who tagged up at third base after a shallow fly ball to left field, the game could be stopped again, and Gonzo could be presented with third base. The croud could loudly cheer, women in the stands could swoon, babies could cry. I recommend having a lot of extra balls and third bases around when Gonzo plays here next year. I also expect to see Jerry Colangelo and Joe Jr. at more Diamondbacks games next year as they return to pay more tributes to Gonzo. Yep, having Gonzo around again will be great. Gonzo is so loved by the fans in Phoenix that all the Dodger games next year will probably sell out as fans line up to pay tribute to Gonzo. I even expect a number of Diamondback fans to switch their allegiance to the Dodgers. Thank you, Gonzo, for holding a grudge against the Diamondbacks and staying in the NL West to stick it to your old club. You sure are a great guy! Clap. Clap. Clap.

Amen.
And yes, shoewiz, you're absolutely correct. Gonzo will be an angel until he gets that 3 year extension following a hot April...
Amen.

The crowds are always larger for Dodger games. It would have had a stroner net gain for our attendance if he had gone to Colorado.

Without a doubt. I don't even think he was bad the last couple years, more like the last couple months when the writing was on the wall. If he was pissed the last couple years it was because he saw the team becmoing less and less competitive.
As for "sticking it to his old team", not happenin. The guy was behind every single 3-1 fastball he took a cut at, and is finished.

He's going to consistently suck. Looks like they have to get Manny, or Cabrera. Otherwise they're just wasting that $100M+ payroll.

I'll have to go look up the average attendance for a Dodger weekday and weekend game for the last 3 seasons, (need a reasonable sample size.) and then we can compare that to the size of the crowd at Dodger games this year.
I bet there is a small but noticeable bump.
I bet Gonzo has a big game or two here at Chase Field, or against the Dodgers. He was a great player once, and hasn't lost ALL of his ability just yet. He showed that he can still sqeeze some top performance out of his body when properly motivated.....he just can't sustain it over a full season anymore. |

I haven't seen the alleged deal he had on the table from Baltimore, but if he passed up a multi-year deal there to watch his average die in the cavernous outfield of Dodger Stadium because of some misguided obsession to "stick it to" the D-backs, Gonzo is a complete moron.
I don't see how he is going to be effective in LA. His throwing arm will be even more exposed in Dodger Stadium, and his 15 homerun power is likely to decline even further because of park factors, as well as advancing age. Subbing Gonzo in for Drew is a huge downgrade.
7 million dollars for what maybe 10 homeruns and a sub .750 ops. Wow. |

My projected Gonzo 2007 Dodger Season:
.265/.345/.400, with 10 homers
He'll start fast, but really cool off after the All Star Break.
He'll also do well early on against the D-Backs.
And he'll have one outfield assist, after CoJack slips and falls rounding second. |

It'll be fun watching Webb and Davis make a monkey out of him.
I'm sure it's crossed Gonzo's mind.

Shall we place bets now on how many slow rollers Gonzo will hit to 2B against Webb this year?

Gonzo and Pierre's arms are well known to be crappy.
Whats the scouting report on Eithier's arm? Does he "fit right in" ? |

At least we won't have to hear Thom Brennaman saying, "And how bout Andre Either? Wow! Is this kid going to be good."

Sweet the Dodgers are stock piling "average at best" OFs. Chris Young is going to be running wild on LA for years to come. |
