From Stark's 10:12 PM update
For Gio Gonzalez and Gavin Floyd. Gio was involved in last years Thome deal, so he's going back to the organization that drafted him

Freddy looked to have quite the high salary a month or so ago, but it isn'r so bad considering what free agents have been getting lately. |

This is a strange trade to me from the Sox POV. Aren't they in a win now mode? Isn't Garcia a valuable piece for team wanting to win now?
Could they be planning on moving Gio or Floyd? These are guys we talked about for the Dbacks. If not Gracia for Brynes, one or both of these guys? I'd do that is second. |

They will move McCarthy into the rotation to take Garcia's place in 2007, and of course Freddy is a FA after 2007
I don't know if Floyd has options, but I am sure Gio has plenty. |

I think it is far from a sure thing that McCartjy can replace Garcia adequately. The Sox' strength has been their starting pitching. If your numbers 4 and 5 are half to a run better than the other guy's 4-5 and give you 200 ip, that is like having an ace at the top of the rotation.
I don't think it is a bad trade for the Sox in a vacuum, but given they should be trying to win now, I don't see it unless they have a good use for Garcia's 10M and $10,000,000 doesn't buy what it used to. |

Talking with my buddies from the Sox's all seem to believe this is a precursor to another deal. They seem to think Tampa but who knows. |
