My vote goes to the Javier Vasquez trade. In retrospect, IMHO, just getting Cris Young alone would have been a good deal for the Diamondbacks. The throw in of Orlando Hernandez netted Jorge Julio, who may not be with the Diamondbacks long but might bring back something in a trade. Luis Vizquieno has been a great bullpen addition. The little bit of cash thrown in the deal was well worth it, and the Diamondbacks unloaded the salary of a pitcher who was above average but not worth the price. I'm glad Vasquez demanded a trade.

His best move was from Boston to Phoenix.

I don't think he should get credit for DFAing Ortiz. I'm sure everyone wanted to do it but they had to wait till Kendrick and the other owners had enough.

there's no move that has knocked my socks off with this guy, and that's perfectly fine with me. I don't feel that there needs to be a big move just yet with this team. What has amazed me with Byrnes is that he has taken a calculated, careful approach to the moves he has made (at least apparently so). I have agreed with the approach he has taken this offseason of not chasing ghosts with big money and not trading the essential farmhands for mirage players, as well as allowing the young guys to grow.

In short, he's everything that Garagiola and Moorad aren't.

His best moves have been the one's we haven't made. There hasn't been a trade that didn't accomplish something, or one that cost us down the road.

But I would say the string of picking up Estrada for two mediocre relievers, who we parlayed - with two mediocre pitchers - for a solid #3. That has been the types of moves that wind up being the best - continually moving up the quality chain. Always, always, always trade bulk of mediocre talent for above avg talent. League avg is always available.

I like Glaus<-> Hudson+Batista deal.
give up Expensive Power 3rd baseman,
but get Best Defensive+some productive 2nd baseman,
starting pitcher who presents a sandwich pick prospect to team
Cool

I'm perfectly happy with his trades overall because we still have Drew, Upton, Jackson, et. al. I'm sure a lot of lesser GMs would have been tempted to trade off at least some of the farm to get a high-priced overated free agent. I'm glad he stuck with the cards he was dealt and, in a year or two, let the fun begin!

I too like this deal, but how nice would it be to have a serious power threat on the team. We have a talented team 1-8 (plus the pitcher), but pretty much every player can hit anywhere in the lineup...
