rotoworld weighs in:
Doug Davis-S-Diamondbacks Nov. 25 - 4:17 pm et
Diamondbacks acquired LHP Doug Davis, LHP Dana Eveland and OF Dave Krynzel from the Brewers for C Johnny Estrada, RHP Claudio Vargas and RHP Greg Aquino.
The Brewers must not have liked what they heard in negotiations regarding a multiyear deal with Davis. The 31-year-old left-hander said in September that if he didn't get at least a three-year deal, he'd definitely test free agency after next season. The Diamondbacks will work hard to get him signed, though it figures to take at least $8 million per year. In Davis, the Diamondbacks are getting a solid innings-eater capable of winning 15 games with better run support. He's definitely a weaker bet for fantasy purposes now that he's in Arizona, but we weren't likely to recommend him anyway.
Dana Eveland-S-Diamondbacks Nov. 25 - 4:11 pm e
23-year-old left-hander Dana Eveland was sent from Milwaukee to Arizona in a six-player deal.
It's clear the Brewers had soured a bit on Eveland, who has dealt with weight issues since before he made his major league debut as a 21-year-old in 2005. However, he's been one of the most effective lefties in the high minors the last two years. In 2006, he was 6-5 with a 2.74 ERA, 71 H and 110/41 K/BB in 105 IP for Triple-A Nashville. As a groundball pitcher, he should be a good fit in Arizona. He probably won't win a rotation spot out of spring training, but there's a good chance he'll get a look by May or June.
Dave Krynzel-OF-Diamondbacks Nov. 25 - 4:08 pm et
Outfielder Dave Krynzel was traded from the Brewers to the Diamondbacks in a six-player deal.
It's been a few years now since Krynzel, a 2000 first-round pick, was viewed as one of the NL's better outfield prospects. He hit just .231/.314/.359 with 23 steals for Triple-A Nashville last season. The change of scenery should do him some good, but even if he bounces back, he's unlikely to have much of a future in Arizona. At best, he'll be a fourth outfielder.
Johnny Estrada-C-Brewers Nov. 25 - 4:06 pm et
Brewers acquired C Johnny Estrada, RHP Claudio Vargas and RHP Greg Aquino from the Diamondbacks for LHP Doug Davis, LHP Dana Eveland and OF Dave Krynzel.
Estrada hit .302/.328/.444 in his lone season in Arizona. He'll combine with Damian Miller to give the Brewers one of the league's best combos behind the plate, though it's at the price of weakening the rotation. If the Brewers use the money they wanted to spend on Dave Roberts to get a solid starter to replace Davis, this trade will look quite a bit better. As is, they're a worse team today than they were yesterday.
Claudio Vargas-S-Brewers Nov. 25 - 4:01 pm et
Right-hander Claudio Vargas was sent from the Diamondbacks to the Brewers in a six-player deal.
Vargas was 12-10 with a 4.83 ERA last season and 9-6 with a 4.81 ERA for Arizona in 2005 after being claimed off waivers from the Nationals. Brewers GM Doug Melvin is undoubtedly looking at his substantial home-road splits and expecting improvement now that he's out of Arizona. We're not so certain it will come, but he is an acceptable fifth starter at a decent price. He'll probably command $2 million-$2.5 million in 2007, and he's not going to be eligible for free agency until after 2009.
Greg Aquino-R-Brewers Nov. 25 - 3:58 pm et
Greg Aquino was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Brewers in a six-player deal.
Aquino saved 16 games as a rookie in 2004, but elbow problems and ineffectiveness plagued him in 2005 and he wasn't able to make it all the way back last season, finishing with a 4.47 ERA in 48 1/3 innings. On the plus side, he did fan 51 and post a 3.00 ERA in 18 innings after the All-Star break. Also, he's still a year away from being eligible for arbitration. It remains possible that he'll turn into a quality setup man.
Doug Davis-S-Diamondbacks Nov. 25 - 3:16 pm et
The Diamondbacks have reportedly acquired Doug Davis, Dana Eveland and David Krynzel from the Brewers for Johnny Estrada, Claudio Vargas and Greg Aquino.
We have to give the edge to the Diamondbacks here. Even though he's just one year away from free agency, Davis qualifies as the most valuable property in the deal. Estrada should be an upgrade over Damian Miller, but he's not a huge one. The bigger upgrade is that the Brewers won't have to rely on a weak backup for 50 games. Of the other four players, Eveland is probably the best bet for the future. Vargas is a reasonable fifth starter, but that's all he is. Aquino still has a chance to be a decent setup man. Krynzel has lost almost all of his value and shouldn't make an impact in the crowded Arizona outfield.

Why do we need two threads on this?
We don't. One of them will be locked down.
But what's a moderator to do? This thread was started at 1:22 pm, while the other was started at 1:23 pm (which is probably why we have two). On the other hand, this one has a handful of replies; while the other already has 20-some replies.
On that basis, and no other, this is the thread to be locked down.
Sorry, Otacon. Better luck next time...
