A radio source has confirmed that the free agent pitcher Randy Wolf will likely sign with Arizona for 3 years $18 million, and a trade is in works and will likely be completed before the Thanksgiving weekend. Diamondbacks will also bid for a left handed Kei Igawa.
I will find the written article and post it as soon as possible.
I just heard this.

can anyone confirm this? 3/18 isn't too bad at all -- better than the 3/21 rumor. really, wolf will make 6M a year -- more than batista will probably get -- and with more upside.
i like the move for igawa, too. he's still young, lefty, and had an 8.3 k/9 this last year for the hanshin tigers. anyone know if he's a flyball or groundball guy?

I think we are going to get killed in a bidding war... i just dont see us winning - wont the yanks / dodgers / mets be interested?
I wouldnt be counting on igawa at all...
Byrnes for Garcia? Thoughts? |

if the white sox trade garland to texas, as rumored, then garcia isn't going anywhere. garcia has long been a favorite of guillen's; in fact, they are neighbors back home...
if the dbacks really get wolf for 3 years and $18m, i'd high - five byrnes on a job well done. i wonder what the trade is; most likely, it's estrada going places, doing things...
if the bidding on igawa doesn't get too crazy (ie, anything over $7m or so), i won't mind giving him a shot. if he doesn't crack the rotation, he could be a killer lefty pitcher in the pen... |

I think it was either 620 or 910. I was just listening to it in the office. I will post in when I see the written article. Thanks!

We're lucky Joe Jr has moved on to muck up bigger things or the big trade would be Byrns & Estrada to SF for Schmidt and it would be Spring Training before he'd realize Schmidt was a free agent pitching for someone else.

Anyone else find it interesting that if by some grace of ja Hairston starts in LF that our back up outfielder, Davanon, will make as much as the 3 starting OF put together. |

If this happens then I guess that Drew can no longer be AKA the Wolf.
Bummer. |

Rotoworld lists the potential suitors for Kei Igawa as the "Padres, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, Mets, Cubs and Indians." They rule out the Red Sox and Mariners, though this Tacoma News-Tribune article says the M's are "likely" to bid. That same article predicts that the posting fee will be about "two-thirds less" than Daisuke Matsuzaka's $51.1M: $17M.

17M is, I think, a bit much for igawa. According to the same site, David Wright isn't convinced he has major league stuff. |

Although I appreciate that radio folks might have inside information that the Diamondbacks are "close" to signing Wolf, there are reports that the Phillies and some other teams want him, too. Most agents are trying to get their players the best deals they can, playing one team against another as the price for the player is bid up. In a bidding war I do not like the Diamonbacks' chances. We'll see... |
