Juat a RUmor still but wow... the mets site:

http://www.metsblog.com/

is reporting:

Quote:
While appearing on ESPN Radio, ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick reports that the Braves are close to acquiring Jake Peavy from the Padres in exchange for 2B Marcus Giles, RHP Horacio Ramirez and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Peavy's FIP was WAY lower than his ERA last year....which may or may not be an indication that he really was much closer to the Peavy everyone expected, but was just unlucky. However San Diego had a pretty good defense, most of the season anyway, and that is a pitchers park. So his ERA last year was certainly fugly.

Still.....I can't believe SD will trade him...but I'll be very very very very happy if the do.

Assuming Peavy is available and they would trade within the division, would:

Hudson, ???, Montero > Giles, Ramirez, Saltalamacchia?

I can't see why they would trade Peavy at all. He was still league average in his down year and is due only $10.75M over the next two years.

Since I haven't understood a single move the Padres have made this off season (re: trading Barfield and Ben Johnson), that probably means this trade will happen too.

From the same Metsblog site linked above...

...posted by Matthew Cerrone...
According to ESPN Radio, no guest announced a potential deal between the Braves and Padres involving Jake Peavy during today’s broadcast.

…i am very, very disappointed in the person who e-mailed the original notice to me…i can’t be everywhere, and, as you know, rely on readers to send in the occasional link or quote, which i typically follow up on before posting…however, this guy has proven to always be accurate in the past, so i trusted the same would be the case this time and did not do the appropriate checking, which i apologize for…

…it’s a shame, because he had provided me with a ton of legitimate content in the past…however, so you know, i will no longer accept tips from him…

…oh well…

…the bright side is, as of now, peavy is not on the braves…

_____________________________________________________________

Earlier today, on a tip from a reader, I posted that while appearing on ESPN Radio, Jerry Crasnick was reporting that the Braves are close to acquiring Jake Peavy from the Padres.

The same information currently appears at MLB Trade Rumors.

…however…

…i just talked with Jerry Crasnick, who says he was not on ESPN Radio today…

…the e-mail that was sent to me, with this information, which comes from a reader that has never sent in false information from espn before, apparently cut-and-pasted text to me from the gang at mlb trade rumors, so i have no idea what is up…

…it could be that another columnist from espn was on, and not crasnick, or it could be a total miscommunication…

…i’m working on it and will let you know soon…
