Finally!

For the first time on Wednesday, the general managers gathered here for their annual meetings asked the Major League Baseball committee that oversees umpires to explore the use of the technology as an aid to arbiters in the sport.
Though no vote was taken on the issue, the GMs asked that the committee come back with some recommendations.
"There's a consensus among all of us that we should at least explore the available technology," said one general manager, who asked to remain anonymous. "The more-senior guys felt strongest about this. It's not a rap on the umpires, they do a great job. This is just a viable aid to help them get important calls right."
Not one GM voiced any opposition to at least analyzing the controversial subject.
"There's an element of fairness in this day and age of technology," said Mike Port, MLB's vice president of umpiring, who made a presentation about his group to the GMs on Wednesday. "A lot of people in the ballpark have PDAs or television monitors, and so you have a situation where a lot of them might know what a correct call is before the people on the field who are charged with making it."
Every major professional team sport, aside from baseball, already uses television replay to overturn or substantiate officials' calls, at least on a limited basis. |
Bud is the only one to actively oppose this so far. Interesting that the umpires are for it. Nice to see they want to get the calls right.

If umpires favor exploring this, I wouldn't be surprised to see limited form of instant replay come into fruition.
They couldn't do it for everything--how could we lose the entertainment value of seeing the Earl Weavers of MLB kick dirt and throw tantrums over blown calls. |

I hate the idea. It's totally ruined the flow of football. Because of replay, officials have become tentative to make calls, hoping that replay will bail them out. The Oregon/Oklahoma game is a prime example of officials using replay and still getting it wrong (twice!) in the final minute and a half of a close game. |

Yeah thats the fcking stupid thing, even when USING the video replay the umpires manage to mess 60% of calls up!
