With my luck this topic is probably scattered in one of the "unoffical" threads. But I'm allowed to single it out because...well, it's worthy of its own thread.
So, today's the day. I would have to think he's not going to pull it off because...well, it would have been leaked by now and we would know about a press conference. Well, I hope getting snubbed both his rookie year and now gives him more fire next season.
DAMN THE PADRES FOR KILLING HIS ERA! DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL!! |

Yeah, he probably won't win it.
I have been resigned to that since October 1st.
I blame Gonzo. |

Had Larry Poncino not completely bungled that 9th inning call at 2nd base, Webb would be 16-7 and we all know that W/L is the most important stat to Cy Young voters.
I don't think Webb will win it this year after laying a big turd in his last start. If you're going to impress memory-challenged voters, your last start has to be a strong one. |

I think Webb can win it, considering the anonymous poll over at Snakepit, and the predictions made by some of the writers at ESPN, both have Webb winning it. I think that if anyone else but Webb wins, it would have to be Roy Oswalt, considering Oswalt never had three bad games in a row at the end of the year like Carpenter did. |

I agree Webb will not win Cy Young.
Chris Carpenter will probably win again this year.
Voters generally go with winning team.
They say cerpenter compiled 3.09 ERA and 15 wins in regular season playing under pressure (Winning team)
I blame Gonzo(Lack of expected offense), Green(blocked Q) and Tracy(Pathetic Defense). |

It's Webb!
Brandon Webb-S- Diamondbacks Nov. 14 - 2:05 pm et
Brandon Webb received 15 of the 32 first-place votes to win the NL Cy Young Award on Tuesday.
Amazingly enough, the NL voters are 2-for-2. Webb looked liked the best choice to us, though there were arguments to be made for Chris Carpenter, Roy Oswalt and Bronson Arroyo. The only truly awful choice would have been Trevor Hoffman, who received 12 first-place votes and finished second with 77 points, 26 behind Webb. Carpenter was third with two first-place votes and 63 points. Oswalt received three first-place votes, but because he was left off 19 ballots, he finished with 31 points. Also receiving votes were Carlos Zambrano (six points), Billy Wagner (four), John Smoltz (three) and Takashi Saito (one). |

Shoe and whomever did the work on the road splits, deserve kudos for bringing the Cy back home as well. Webb deserved this award, especially after the ROY debacle.

Amazing news, I'm overjoyed. I would have been ok with him not winning as long as Hoffman didn't win it but the voters came through. |

WHOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
can i just say that i called this? i totally called this. i had a prophetic dream in which he won, i posted here about it, and yep, webb won it. and i rock.
i'm amazed that the new FO is so stealthy -- not a whisper of this leaked out early, nobody knew about a press conference about to happen. wow.

I cant help but wonder if park factor was involved in some of the writers votes...
Hoffman was def hurt by the fact that webb had 6 more votes in the top 3... In other words, it appears that about 6 of the voters took the "The Cy Young cant go to a reliever" stance... Although, it looks like all 6 of those votes would have had to have been 1st place votes to make up the difference... Bottom line - BWebb deserved it...
2006 NL Cy Young Award

Roy Oswalt, Astros 3 3 7 31
Carlos Zambrano, Cubs 1 3 6
Billy Wagner, Mets 1 1 4

I tried to go against all of you earlier and say that I thought he'd win it and this board kept breaking every time i tried to post until I gave up. Damn. In the post, I demanded prizes. Ho hum, but congratulations to Webby! I am fucking thrilled that he finally got a little national recognition for a terrific season.
I love Brandon Webb. |

Clearly no one had faith here...
Anyway, the morons on Cold Pizza this morning said that John Smoltz and Carlos Zambrano had a better shot to win than Webb...so those two guys just lost any credability they had. And by those two guys, I don't mean Paige and Bayless, I mean those two baseball writers |

There really has to be a committee for the Cy and Fireman award. They are both such completely different jobs/roles, that its just no fun to see any closers get Cy votes. And its not to discount how dominating closers are, and deserving in some cases, just should be 2 different categories.

Good for Webb.
I made many predictions this year, amd I admit...
I was totally 100% undisputedly wrong about Webb.
You guys were right. |

I thought Carpenter or Hoffman would win with Webb third. I thought the Padres and Cardinals with better records afforded their players the bast chance in a tight race. I'm glad I was wrong. |
