According to whom at 610 WIP would be my question.

This on Burrell from the Philadelphia Inquirer today...
Jim Salisbury / The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote:
As for Burrell, there remains a possibility he could be dealt this winter, with the Phillies paying a chunk of the remaining $27 million on his contract. However, it probably will not be a quick process. It is likely that all the available power hitters not named Barry Bonds (Soriano, Ramirez, Lee, Matthews, Drew) will be signed before the Phillies can find a power-needy taker for Burrell.

I love that line, "all the available power hitters not named Barry Bonds..." Laughing

Mixed emotions if this were to materialize but with the comments from our FO about Burrell <only about 90 good swings a year>, it's hard to see it happening.

What the poster on the thread wrote:

Quote:
According to Philadelphia's 610 wip, Phillies have agreed with the Diamondbacks on the following deal, The only thing that might hold this deal back would be the cash.

Phillies Get:
C Johnny Estrada
Minor League Prospect

Diamondbacks Get:
LF Pat Burrell
Cash Considerations*

This is the tricky part of the trade where they are still arguing over how much of the current contract of Pat burrell should be taken. According to the Source, The phillies want to take about 9-11m of his contract and Arizona wants the phils to take 13-14m. Expect this deal to be done sometime during the week.

Here's the funny thing: I was writing about trading Estrada for Burrell a while back. With the Phillies taking enough cash to make Burrell's salary around 7-8m/year tops.

People laughed at me Wink

Of course, it depends who the "minor league prospect" is, no? Better not be anyone good. Or even decent.

But I'll believe this trade when I see it. I've already written extensively why adding Burrell to LF and trading Byrnes for pitching would be a very good deal for the Dbacks. No need to repeat myself.

The current GM is a master of disinformation.

The Dbacks never had any interest in any of these so called "power hitters" anyhow. Burrell is far more attractive than Lee or Soriano for several reasons:

He's the same age, and basically the same hitter and same fielder in lf

But he'll be cheaper and under contract for only 2 years instead of 4-5.

If the Dbacks really feel they can work out a trade for Burrell that makes Josh Byrnes happy, it should truly be irrelevant to them what happens to the other power hitters on the market.

The Phillies, btw, are probably anxious to deal Burrell so they can enter the Soriano sweepstakes in earnest. Time to grab Gillick by the balls, I say.

Oden won't like it Wink

I'm with Lev, I like the sound of Burrell a lot more than Byrnes. If the prospect isn't all that and the Phils are kicking in about half of his money then go for it. Despite that, I found this to be the most interesting thing in the link:

Somehow, I don't doubt you found the non-baseball stuff most intriguing, matt. As you should've.

I just LOVE how the Phillies fans talk about how Burrell strikes out too much but Soriano is soooo superior.

the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence...

granted, soriano's 2006 k total was a quite a bit higher than the three year average before that... then again, his bb rate almost doubled. is he the new sammy sosa?

I could've sworn we all agreed Burrell was a non-factor to the team...

And if this comes to fruition...can we expect that deal for a top pitcher still? And will it include Byrnes? And did the D-Backs win the post? And will they be a +.500 team? And will the bullpen actually be effective?

These are all questions that need to be answered in the next post.

jk, lol

honestly, the stuff works really well for me. It only starts to fail when I drink and since I can't go buy smokes when I drink it's still working.

Burrell injured his left wrist in 2004. It flared up this year. Rotoworld also reports foot problems. I am not as enamored with Burrell as some. I'd rather have him at 8M than Byrnes at 5M and would probably give Estrada to do this assuming Burrell is healthy.

After consulting the ORACLE OF philaDELPHIa, I agree with Shoewiz.

Which is fine; we'll finally see Hairston rake at the major league level

We may see Hairston rake but it likely won't be with the D-Backs unless Jbyrnes is a total genius and get's us away from Ebyrnes.
