Stu, I think you have it backwards...kind of.
The comment on Melvin says

Basically it is saying he might have been really bad, or really unlucky with the 2004 mariners, but has been ok the other 3 seasons, (2003 with Mariners, 2005-2006 with the D backs)

Melvin gets a clean slate going into 2007. We'll just have to see how he does. While not optimistic, to be honest, what else can we do.
It's up to Josh to not give him too many PV toys, and it's up to Josh to keep hammering into Bob's head you can't have guys with a .313 OBP continually leading off.
Other than that, let them play, let them have fun, and hammer on fundamentals as much as possible not only in spring, but during the season.
