PHILADELPHIA - Johnny Callison, the rocket-armed right fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies who hit a bottom-of-the-ninth home run that won the 1964 All-Star game, died Thursday following an illness. He was 67.Callison died at Abington Hospital, said Phillies spokesman Larry Shenk. He lived in Glenside, a Philadelphia suburb.
Callison went on to become a three-time All-Star -- in 1962, '64 and '65 -- during his 16-year career. A left-handed hitter with a smooth swing, Callison started with the Chicago White Sox in 1958 and established himself as one of the top players in the National League after being traded to Philadelphia two years later.
He was the MVP of the 1964 All-Star game in New York, hitting a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the National League a 7-4 victory.

I remember we were enjoying the day as guests at the swim club to which my grandparents belonged, listening to the radio when Callison hit the home run to win the All-Star Game. He was one of my favorite players as a fan of the Phillies.
