Should the D backs move the start times back to a later time?

The White Sox just made a deal with 711 to start games at 7:11

NYT Story

I am sure they have studied this, and have reasons to believe a 6:40 start time helps attendance. For me it's not an issue, but I have heard people complain about the early start time in the past.

What do you guys think about the start time......keep it the same or move it to later.

I would prefer later times. 6:40 is a hectic time for me, an extra half hour later would mean more game time for me.

i'm pretty ambivilent. but a claudio vargas start shouldn't be any later than it has to be. i remember one of his games i went to, it lasted six days and five nights. i had to eat my shoes to survive.

I've been thinking about the pleses and minuses about switching the gametime back. Making a 6:40 isn't easy, and I'm usually hurried and just getting to my seat as the game is starting, or I show up about quarter after 7 and watch innings 2/3-9. When the games were at 7:07, I'd always be in my seat before gametime, but sometimes would wind up leaving fter the 7th or 8th innings.

But when there were later starts, I bought more concessions. Enough time to get in an extra beer and nachos or something. I think the team is losing big time in lost concession sales from the earlier start. Nobody is getting there early for the 6:40 starts, so their first round of concessions is usually after the first inning, second round comes around the 5th, and then the concessions close after the 7th, I think.

But at the 7:07 starts, say I get there at 6:45, buy concessions, I'm ready for round 2 after the 3rd or 4th inning (or 2nd), and I make it to round three before the concession windows close after the 7th.

Or just look at it in real time, starting at 6pm (Assuming 10 minutes per half inning). 6:40 starts=concessions close @ 9pm, so they're open for 3 hrs. 7:07 starts=concessions close at 9:30 and are open for 3.5 hrs, and not impacted by the "late arriving crowd".

So we either get people to stick til the end of the game and buy less concessions, or get there early, buy some more concessions and have fewer people left at the end of the game.

I think the 6:40 start time is pretty good, but I work downtown and often go right after work to watch a little batting practice and grab a beer.

Winning more keeps them in the seats longer...and since I am confident the team will win more, by your line of reasoning, the later start time would seem to be better.

Later start times work better from a concession sales point of view.

and of course keep this in mind with the time change.......3 hours behind Sad

940 start kill me after awhile..........

900 would be perfect... Laughing

Starting the game later would really suck for me being on the East Coast!

...but would considering your lack of sleep on the east coast have any impact on the D-Backs gate revenue? Wink

I agree with these two. The earlier the better. Wink

Keep it at 18:40, , just in case a fantasy change has to be made for the 19:30 games. Laughing

Id rather they moved em all to 2pm so i can watch em all live Razz

Seriously though, I dont think it makes alot of difference..if the team wins, fans will show up, if they dont, well then they wont.

I have always hated the earlier starts. It has always struck me as one of those "for the children" things that makes no sense. A kid old enough to appreciate and enjoy the game can stay up til 10 to do so. For me, I have to leave work at least an hour earlier than normal to get to the game on time at 6:40, so the 7:10 start would be a lot less of a hassle.

Well... most games run over 2:45, so if the game starts after 7, it usually won't be over till about 10, and then the time to get out of the stadium, in the car, home, and to bed....you are talking 11 PM for most kids . And if the game is running a little late, those with kids are forced to leave early for sure.

I never take my kid to weeknight games. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are the only games he gets to go to. He is 10 years old and his bedtime is supposed to be before 9PM.

I think they should be more "adult oriented" from Monday-Thursday, and more kid oriented Fri-Sun.

6:40's are ok Mon-Thurs. But the Fri and Sat games should be 7:30, and Sundays should be 1pm.

Yes, that seems like a fair compromise.

If that means replacing Baxter with strippers, I'm getting season tickets.

I wonder if circle K will try and fire back, seeing they have things heavily invested in the D'backs.

I didn't consider that when reading the 7:11 angle.

The 7:11 idea is interesting to make a few bucks....but the bigger question is the start time.
