This will be an interesting game. Carpenter on extra rest vs. Peavy.

I think you see the anticipated pitchers duel. Peavy looked pretty sharp last time out. Carp not so much...but the extra rest should help him.

Wow...Peavy is ON.

Just got Albert looking with a wicked backup fastball at the knees to end the first.
Could be a long day for the Cardinals.

Like a number of pitchers, Carpenter frequently isn't as sharp in the first inning and settles in.

From first inning, does look like we're in for a classic pitcher's duel.

How can Giles just stand there with the bat in his hand after the swinging bunt? He just kind of stood there and didn't get out of the box expecting the ump to call it foul.

I think if he gets out of the box quicker he might be able to avoid the DP there.

Actually... Cards should be playing pretty relaxed. NO ONE expects them to survive the first round--especially realistic Cardinals fans.

he's springing his shoulder twice in the same delivery. he springs it going back, before the pitch, but then as the arm reaches max extension it looks like the muscles or tendons in the shoulder are springing it back. then his elbow rises and flails.

it's like throwing 2 pitches each time he throws a single pitch. unneccessary wear and tear.

watch after he released the fb -- arm pulls back toward the 3b side instead of following through. forearm lifts upward.

watch after he releases the offspeed shit -- arm pulls back toward 3b but forearm doesn't go up as much.

it's not a tell -- that's too late for a hitter to pick it up. but it is bad mechanics. simplify the motion, follow through, and rotate your excess momentum through your right leg. a lot more fluid and easy.

thanks for the vid, qudjy. you see how he doesn't have the same flail when he k'd a guy and knows it? if he throws something unhittable, he rotates through his delivery, falls off to the 1b side, and walks away.

when he might have contact, he's springing back to try to field the middle, IMO. was he ever hit by a LD? sometimes you see that in a delivery after that happens.

No prob. I have to say, i have never noticed that before, and have never seen anyone do that before... like you said, seems like his shoulder has to "throw" 2 pitches for every one pitch..
