What a great game. A's get to Johan in the 2nd with a Frank Thomas homerun and a Marco Scuataro double, to score two runs.

After 6 1/2, thats still the score. Zito pitching a 2 hit Gem through 6, and Johan, after settling down, through the 5th, just pitched out of a nail biting 7th inning bases loaded Jam.

I thought I would just make a generic thread for the series, as opposed to "game day threads"....although this thread can certainly double as a game thread.

if the a's win the WS, joe morgan is going to rant about how they didn't win it because of moneyball -- they won it because of a true hr/rbi baseball man like frank thomas. Rolling Eyes

Nope!!!

Anybody checking out today's game? Middle of the 8th, Oak is up 4-2. Things are not looking good for the Twins. If they don't find a way to come back today, they are fucked.

I have radio on at work tuned to 860 AM, but the reception is sooooo bad that it's primarily static background noise. So when the announcers get excited, I have to check an online sports source to figure out what the hell happened.

WTF?!

okay, wrong thread, but i HAD to post.

i'm watching the LA/NYM game, and the 3b coach sent the runner when they shouldn't have. so the runner gets tagged out at home by lo duca. ump signals out. lo duca looks psyched.

then, from out of the corner of the screen, comes ANOTHER runner just flying in. lo duca spins, tags, and the ump signals THAT guy is out too.

i don't know if i've ever seen a play at the plate where TWO runners were tagged out back to back without a pitch being thrown in between or the ball leaving the catchers hand.

the dodgers need to go and kick their 3b coach square in the nuts for that.

Definitely disappointing, although not suicide-worthy. 2-0 Oakland and MN hit back-to-back jacks to tie it up. Then, with one out and a runner on 1st, Oakland hit into a sure double play, but Bartlett couldn't get a grip on it and only got the lead runner. Next batter, Kotsay, hits a sinking liner to Hunter who dives and misses. It goes to the wall and Kotsay has a 2-run inside the park HR. Ballgame.

Of all people to misplay a ball, it was Hunter. 90 times out of 100 he either catches or traps a ball like that and 9 of the other 10 times he keeps it in front of him. One in a hundred shot. The cool thing was, when Hunter came up to bat in the next inning, he got a standing O.

it's amazing what knowing a fan of another team can do to you. just from reading oden's posts for the last couple years, i really found myself rooting for the twins. it would have been a great story, too, if things had broken in the right way: santana becomes a postseason god, liriano could begin creating his postseason reputation as a stud, and radke could get the twins to the series on a broken/torn shoulder. would have been great.

Horrible call to send Hunter there, but I hate the excuse of "He was out by a mile anyway." If the tag isn't made, he's NOT out. I don't know if he was out or not on that play. Too bad ESPN can't get a better view of that play when they spend millions to air playoff games. Bunch of hacks...

I think the Twins are a great type of team to root for. Jesus, how many years of pathetic baseball did I go through? These last few years have been great, regardless of how they do in the post-season.
