What are the thoughts of you guys?

If Melvin is to be replaced, should it be kept in the family with Hale, or shoul we give Dusty or Girardi a call? I like the way he managed the Marlins and think he might be able to do the same for us.

Dusty Baker?

You hate our pitchers, don't you.

Girardi is tough to gauge. On one hand it sure seems like he did a great job of handling kids in Florida. On the other hand, I heard that he was actually very resistent to putting all the rookies in the rotation, and that was forced on him, which was the beginning of the struggles with ownership.

I didn't watch him closely enough to gauge his in game tactical maneuvers, and how he handled a pitching staff. We'll need to hear from others on that.

Anyway, Girardi is going to Chicago, and Melvin isn't going anywhere.

Bob is ours.

Chicago - Bob Brenly or Joe Girardi
San Fran - Bob Brenly or Lou Pinella
Florida - ???
Washington - Dusty Baker?

Just some random predictions there.

I really think that Bob Brenly will look to get back in the game.

I can see Girardi in Chicago and Brenly in San Francisco. I can also see Gonzo going to San Francisco as soon as Brenly is named the manager.

I could see Brenly in SF too. No way Piniella ends up there. The reason he left Seattle was that it was too far away from his family in Florida. If he manages, it'll be on the east coast.

Well, I was considering him as a potential candidate in Florida, but I figured he wouldn't want to take over all those kids...however, he may..we shall never know until they name a new skipper.

I should give you a heads up gary, the entire DB pitching staff is on their way to beat the crap out of you for thinking that Dusty should be the manager.

If the Diamondbacks were, at this time, thinking of replacing Bob Melvin -- and I don't think they are -- the two names I think should be at the top of the list of potential replacements are Joe Girardi and Chip Hale.

I fully expect the '07 season to begin with Melvin as the manager of the Diamondbacks. As Girardi will undoubtedly be under contract elsewhere by the time a decision might be made to find a new manager, it would be the smart move to make sure that Hale is under contract with the team here in some capacity, and so available to step in to the manager's position.

Bob got his extension simply because he was already here and he is willing to be a yes man and play the kids the way the FO wants him too. If they were really serious about 07, they wouldn't have given him that.

The only way melvin would be fired in 2007 is if the team is 20 games under .500

That was totally uneccesary. Why would you say something like that?

I do not approve or agree with this sentiment whatsoever.

Try not to take it so personal. I would hope that it is an obvious joke. Of course I don't actually want Bob Melvin to die, but at this point, it's just about the only way we're going to end up with a new manager at the start of '07.

Lee, we stretch the boundry of decency pretty far on this board and encourage you to continue posting, but death wishes, whether joking or sincere are beyond what is acceptable here.

I remember last week everyone joking about Eric Byrnes getting into a motorcycle accident so Hairston or Tracy could get playing time. That devolved into Byrnes breaking bones whilst wiping his ass. Rolling Eyes

There's a line, I believe you, but we sure do blur it around here.

There was a Jeff Kent truck washing joke there (at least I perceived it as such) but death wishes are way beyond. It's a fine line we walk and I'm open to input from all.

I agree with you, TAP.

It's just that... well, one man's humor is another man's grabbing his .45, as we found out during Gonzo's twilight days, perceived or real bashing, etc.

The Ortiz days were rife with Tanya Harding jokes, choking on donuts, and lord knows all the crap we put up from "Troy" and Shawn Green.

But you're right: there's humor and then there's a couple serial killers prowling your town, or some guy goes on a rampage at an Amish school and kills 11.

Maybe we should all be a little more cognizant of this when we're frustrated with ___________. (Fill in the blank)

And at that point... some over the top post could be taken VERY seriously by authorities that generally exist outside these boards.

i'll fess up: i'm the guy who took the byrnes thread to the wiping ass / flipping in the air / breaking his collar bone area. it was meant as a joke, and a jeff kent reference. i wish no harm to eric byrnes -- he reminds me of my dog. and i love my dog. and i wish no harm upon my dog.

but you're all right -- it is a very, very fine line we're all walking here, and it doesn't hurt us to be made more aware of that.

I'm sorry to come of as some self righteous moralizer.
Anyone who knows me personally knows thats NOT who I am.
Opinionated asshole yes, moralizer no.

And the lines DO get blurred around here....no doubt about it. I don't feel comfortable injecting myself as some type of arbiter determing what is acceptable and what is not. Everyone is pretty much free to post what they want, other than direct PERSONAL attacks on other board members, or pornography and spam....(not that I don't like the pictures....I do....but ...well , you know)

But I also feel compelled to comment if I think something is over the line.
Mellon, I didn't take it "personally"....but I am sure that Bob Melvin, and anyone from the organization actually reading this thread WOULD.
And trust me....THEY DO READ HERE.

Just thought you should know.
