Hi All- I have not posted at this forum, I did over at the "old" forum a few times.
This post may not be too substantial and will definitely show my age...
I get real damn annoyed every time I see how this punk chooses to wear his baseball cap. It strikes me as being disrespectful to baseball tradition.
I imagine I am overreacting.... |

That is the LEAST of Aquino's problems.
And I NEVER even noticed how he wears his hat. I guess that shows how important that is to me.
Welcome back BTW. |

Thank the Marlins (Dontrelle, Juan Pierre for instance) for starting the G, hat askew, look... IIRC.
I'm all for it, actually. It's kind of refreshing for me. A little injection of "now" and youth into the game.
But, like Shoe said, it's the least of Aquino's problems.

He wears his hat with the bill off-center, turned slightly to the right side. It's not terribly noticeable; but, when you DO see it, you can't avoid it thereafter.
Unfortunately, one of the color commentators (maybe Grace, maybe Joe Sr.) pointed it out, and now I see it every time...
For me, it's no big deal; but it's slightly out of whack, and makes me want to reach out and adjust it -- like a picture frame that's a hair off to one side or another... weird...

Aquino has a lot more to worry about, like getting batters out and staying healthy.
Dontrelle wears his cap like that also. I could care less. |

IIRC, we have one pitcher on the way with each eye a different color, and another that can only see out of one eye. I can't remember their names right now...
Anyway, that could be pretty spooky on the mound.

Never noticed anything about Aquino's cap either.... NBD
Only caps I remember noticing: Steve Kline because his gets incredibly dirty as the season proceeds, and Anthony Reyes because his cap bill is sooooooo over the top "flat" that it's hard NOT to notice. "Some" might think those guys are being "disrepectful" as well... but it's really NBD. |

I for one, cannot stand this as it does show a complete disrespect for the game. I also hate to see guys wear their unis baggy as hell like pajamas (i.e. Manny Ramirez). I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.
I will, however, agree that Aquino has much bigger problems than this. |

OOOPPPs- yeah I hosed the spelling up. Aquino does have some issues on the mound. some of his buddies do as well...
I just viewed the "cap style" as disrespect to the tradition of the game. I do not care much for the whole gangster, rap, hihop fashion statements and this is exactly that. |

there's actually a reason pitchers do this.
the batters will often watch the logo on a pitchers hat before the pitcher delivers the pitch, since it adjusts the eyes to a whitish blog about the size of a baseball about the right location. so a few pitchers started wearing their caps tilted more "in" toward the center of the pitching rubber. just to throw off the batter's adjustment from moving from the logo on the cap to the ball coming out of the hand.
i can't find it now, but i read somewhere that this is a BIG part of the reason willis does it. sabathia too. if you're watching his logo, and his hand flies out from the side, the more tilted the logo the longer it takes the eye to travel from it to the ball. it's microseconds, but it does have a little bit of an effect.
if YOU think it's irritating, it's REALLY bugging the hitter.

It doesnt seem to be doing much to help him.
It is not doing much for fan club membership either.

Brad Halsey, Dontrelle Willis, Barry Zito, Cole Hamels all do this from time to time. I heard that it helps spot the ball better as a left hander. Maybe Aquino is just reversing to help spot the ball, of course, he's not that good at that anyway. |
