Astros designate Wilson for assignment
Wilson, age 32 years, was hitting .269 (.309/.405/.269) with 55 RBI -- and only 9 HR -- in 102 games for the 'stros. Most of his games were in LF.
Green's numbers to date: .349/.430/.285 -- 10 HR
So there are other options for the NYY or StL or the NYM... Especially as Wilson has a one-year contract ($4M) with a three-year club option and a $500,000 buy-out option after this season. (The contract had incentive clauses worth up to $9M over the period of the deal.)

Well this could be the end of the Green to NYM rumor. Could Wilson go back to the Mets years after the Piazza trade and make everything all right again? |

ST. LOUIS -- Preston Wilson signed with the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday after being released by the Houston Astros earlier this week.
Wilson batted .269 with nine home runs and 55 RBI with the Astros, but disappointed them with a lack of power. The Cardinals hope to improve their lineup against left-handed pitching.
St. Louis was 17-28 against left-handers entering Friday's game at Chicago.
The team also has concerns about center fielder Jim Edmonds, who missed the past two games because of post-concussion syndrome. Edmonds had been optimistic about playing Friday, but there was no word about the day's lineup.
Wilson made only two starts after July 29 for the Astros, who replaced him in the lineup with Luke Scott. He was designated for assignment Saturday.
The Cardinals have been weak in the outfield most of the year before the emergence of rookie Chris Duncan in the past month. Wilson could possibly platoon in left field with the left-handed hitting Duncan.

Not surprised, considering their worries about Edmonds

This should effectively end the "Green to the Cardinals" hopes/rumors...
C'mon, Omar! You know you want him...

I would think that this means the Green to Mets deal is dead. Doesn't this suggest that the Mets aren't willing to spend anything to add a shitty, washed-up baseball player? |

Would you? We just have to trust that Omar wakes up one day and decides on an impulse buy he'll regret for the rest of his life. It's possible. After all, that's why the divorce rate is so high. |
