Gotta express my pissed offness over here at the new place..............
Cruz has gone 2-0 with an ERA of 2.60 in his last three starts. Threw 17 scoreless innings this year at one point as a starter.
Also did I hear right they had Cruz warming up last night? He is going to get BoMelled and they are going to ruin his arm. You watch...........
This will be the place where I track Heckle and Hyde Vargas starts the rest of the season...................

Shouldn't that be "pissed offEDness?" Maybe our resident English perfesser can help us out...
It would be my preference, as well, to see Cruz remain in the starting rotation, and have Vargas become the long-relief guy in the bullpen -- not because I think Vargas is better suited to that role, but because I share with you and others here the opinion that, of the two, Cruz is going to do a better job in the starting rotation.
Do you think that Cruz got shuffled because he was filling that role when we picked him up and turned him into a starter?

I think Cruz got sent to the pen because he has yet to become a PV and would not piss and moan. Shitty way to manage a club if you ask me. Also with CJ back tonight look for Green to be back in RF and CQ to be back on the bench. None of it makes any sense to me...............

This looks like yet another case of the team doing the safe thing rather than the right thing:
Cruz - 5.07 IP/GS; 4.56 ERA
Vargas - 5.31 IP/GS; 5.40 ERA
Cruz wins the peripherals game, too. |

You got all of that one, Scott -- 500+ feet from home plate. No way to run a railroad...
Green's numbers (beginning with his BA) have been steadily dropping over the last few weeks. (Remember, earlier in the season, when all we heard was how valuable he was because he was the only player other than Estrada to have a BA >.300?) It ain't there now, baby!
Last night was so typical. In the first (score 0-0), Estrada singles with one out. Green K's. In the fourth (1-0 Marlins), Gonzo leads off with a walk. Green K's to end the inning. He added another K in the 7th. Granted, it's only one game -- but it seems so much like every game lately...
But he's a "proven veteran" who "knows how to win ballgames," and so "deserves" the start ahead of the rookie. (Hey! Is GIMH from the board at azcentral in reality a person in the dugout or FO? )

Gonzo paid one of his kids to troll there
I can somewhat understand the organization trying to avoid Gonzo whines, but Green does NOT have the same stature in the community. They need to bite the bullet on that one and stick with the best athletes.... Of course, that doesn't preclude the idea that perhaps the "face" has let the front office know that HE expects these p.v.s to get the playing time down the stretch to show that they are serious about making a run at the division. (Implications of additional whining if another fellow p.v. doesn't get the time)

Since being moved to the Pen 8 days ago, Cruz has appeared in just two games, pitching just 2 innings.
If they are going to claim that Cruz can help the bullpen so much,
THEN USE HIM !!
Or....just put him back in the rotation and send Enrique down to Tucson to learn how to throw strikes in the first inning.
(Yeah....I'm still pissed off)

Yeah, this 1st inning business has cost us the NL West pennant. And I'll be royally pissed if we wind up cutting someone loose with the stuff that Cruz has because we can't figure out a role for him. His role is on the mound mowing down the lineup for 2-3 innings.

"... has cost us the NL West pennant."
Sorry to split hairs, but there's no pennant for winning the division. This team, at their best, was a long shot to win the NL pennant. If they're only scoring one run a game, they can forget the playoffs. Personally, I'd play the better, younger players, but that's just me. |

I want both. I think we can win with the kids. The NL is the JV of baseball this year. The M-E-T-S were the only standout team IMO but now they have some major Pitching questions. The NL is a crapshoot anyones got a shot even the kids..................

While wondering if Cruz is going to start instead of Enrique anytime soon I found this..............
Don't worry I dont know what it means either but it looks good..........
scott (Beautiful Disaster)
Anyway, I was looking at those stats and wondering which pitchers have gotten even more from their fielders? That is, can we compare individual pitchers to their team to see if certain ones give up more "fieldable" hits? So I looked at the difference between each team's performance for specific pitchers, and came up with a list of the pitchers who have apparently allowed the most fieldable balls this year (minimum of 300 batters faced). On groundballs, these pitchers have the best outcomes, compared to their team average:
Code: |
Last First Team GB% vs. Tm
--------------------------------------------
Lidle Cory Phillies 8.5%
Thompson Michael Padres 6.9%
Arroyo Bronson Reds 6.3%
Santana Johan Twins 5.7%
Affeldt Jeremy Royals 5.3%
Cruz Juan Diamondbacks 5.1%
Redman Mark Royals 5.0%
Marmol Carlos Cubs 4.9%
Maddux Greg Cubs 4.8%
O'Connor Michael Nationals 4.6%
|
For example, the Phillies have converted 74% of all groundballs into outs, but they had converted 82.5% of Cory Lidle's groundballs for outs, before he was traded to the Yankees. Which means that Lidle's grounders are easier to field (softer, more on line), the Philly infielders eat their Cheerios on the days Lidle pitches, or Lady Luck had a hand in the play.

Can anyone explain why Cruz has only pitched 3 innings this month? What gives? It's not like he has blown it in those outings; in fact he has struck out the side two of his three one inning stints. Anybody? |

Most likely his shoulder is still not right. The last time he pitched, (or perhaps it was the time before last, I forget) they had to go out to the mound and talk to him, and he almost came out.
I am pretty sure that when they made the decision to pull him from the rotation to make room for Livan, his Shoulder had alot to do with that.
The reasons they are not discussing it could be many. Most likely because they don't know exactly whats wrong, or perhaps they are thinking of trade value.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here, and assume they are protecting him from further injury.

Well it looks like he will get the start tomorrow, although it is posted that he will probably be limited to only 2 innings. Logical considering he hasn't gotten much work in at all the last two months.
While you might suggest a shoulder problem, it may be the case and it may not. No press release on the situation has not helped resolve the mystery surrounding his 3 IP all month. I'm sure he'll build his arm back up this winter, as I believe he plays ever year back home as a starter.
