Great job by Young to read that off the bat and score. With his speed and instincts he's gonna be a player.

Wow nice bloop there. CY using that awsome burst that he has scores as well. We have a lot to look forward to. And it is unfortunate that some fans want to leave and not be around to see this bright future.

When we start winning, they'll be back -- not to worry!

Yeh, I don't understand that one either. '07 looks very promising.

Cool

Amen to the bright future.

Don't worry about the fan exodus. Most of them will be back after their tantrums are finished....and after they decide which new D-Back has the cutest butt in the new Sedona Red uniform. Rolling Eyes

Now we need to correlate that into a streak of 3 or 4 games. We had great games in San Diego (Wed) came back with a Dud then played a great game in LA (Sat) came back with a dud yesterday.

Here's to Webby.

Here are tonight’s heroes:
- Edgar Gonzalez allowing just 1 ER in 7 full innings
- Miguel Montero going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s
- Chad Tracy hitting 2 for 3 and a beautiful defensive gem at 3rd (and no K’s!)
- Eric Byrnes and Conor Jackson with the bombs!
- And Chris Young with a solid RBI hit in the 9th

Yes, the future does look bright in Arizona!

Have to admit that the whole nickname thing has me a bit concerned - if only because some of the ideas being touted are -- I don't know how to say this diplomatically -- too stupid for words. What if one of these actually gets picked up and used?

It's late, I'm tired, and there are far more important things to worry about...

Hale's Marauders?
El Nuevo Grupo?
The I-10 Commute?
The Arizona New Crew? (Which Thom sorta semi-mangled at one point to be the "No Chew Crew"... tee-hee...)
Reptile Resurgence? Puh-leeze!

Mrs. Evil asked what I would call them. "Babybacks v.2" says I.
Then she asked which of the names mentioned would I choose? I said, "Baby Snakes." She pointed out, correctly, that wasn't one Grace had mentioned. So I said, "Buzztails."

Terrorists around the world; war in Iraq... and people are worrying about a nickname?

Let's just call them the Diamondbacks!!!

OK. I'll shut up now... Twisted Evil

You know, you could just feel it tonight, when Edgar got of the trouble, after the play by Trace, who ironically caused the trouble. It was like a reversal of the entire year right there in a lot of ways. A cleansing. Edgar comes back, and makes great pitches to Winn, then the shot by Vizquel. That was a great gamble by BoMel to let, Edgar get out of it. I don't know if I would have left him in, but I supported the decsion, with both eyes shut of course. It was made a lot easier after Drew came to the mound, that tone told me, just his coming to the mound, Drew wanted him to finish it too. Then the smash, and Tracy makes the make up play. I love this game, within a game. Then the follow through in the 9th, where the kids finish it off. Something we haven't seen perhaps all year. The bust it open in the 9th, then Big Papa puts the exclamation point on it.

Thanks, Dangerfield, for the reminder about how, when Edgar got in trouble in the 7th, it was Drew who came to the mound, along with Montero (and then Price). It occurred to me that Drew would have played a number of games with Edgar and Montero while in Tucson; these were teammates who are closer than just wearing the same uniform, and they came to rally their pal -- who responded well. It was Drew leading in a situation where he was the best choice for the task -- and didn't all the "young guns" look good out there?

Can't wait for next year! Very Happy

I liked what I saw from Edgar but he still scares me a bit. He gives up some long fly balls. It's no coinsidence that the only run was a home run. If he can keep the long ball in check, he'll be a very nice pitcher. If not, he'll be a Varags type who has a couple good outings followed by some asskickings.

Stephen Drew. The new face of the franchise?

I know, who says the kids need a leader? Q, J, and D are going to run the show next year!

Edgar's pitches were showing wicked movement and I think his poise is great out there. He's still young. You've got to remember that the Gnats have owned the DBacks this year! How many of them have .300+ BA against the DBacks this season?

My bold prediction: Edgar breaks out big time in 2007. BIG time.

If Q, J, and D are running the show... they ARE the leaders!

It's a fallacy for the broadcasters to continually manufacture a PV as THE team leader. The "leaders" emerge in time for any successful franchise... it's human nature.

I saw him throw a side arm breaking pitch to one batter that literally buckled the guy's knees. It broke a foot down. 'Twas a thing of beauty.

before the edgar hardon goes too far, i want to know: what do you guys really see as his maximum upside? his breaking stuff is okay, his control is okay, and i think he'll be able to control the HR rate after a while.

max upside, IMO, is bronson arroyo with a meaner glare. not bad, and worth hanging onto, but i don't see him as more than a 4 or 5.

There is no doubt, he's not a top of the rotation guy but if he can control the HR/9 he can possibly be a good middle guy. If not, then he's a 4 or 5. He already has the control he needs and can get a strikeout when needed.

I don't see him being as good as Arroyo. For the league he was in, he put up some nice numbers. He's not as good as he's been this season but he is pretty good.
