Not that I like to start gameday threads, nor do I like doing it at 8am, but I saw the start time is 7:40pm. Is that right? Anyone know why? That's almost 11pm at night in the east coast.

Padres website still lists 7:05 but Yahoo Sports has it at 7:40. Changes like this are sometimes made to accomodate TV, so that would be best guess.

Well the Padres are playing at 7:05pm. The DODGERS and Diamondbacks are scheduled for 7:40pm.

heh...still had Padres on the mind.

Dodgers OFTEN start at 7:40. Allows their fanbase more time on the freeways to get there by the 3rd inning.

Mike, I've always admired your courage...congrats on taking Claudio Vargas (1.44 WHIP, .277 BAA, 4.96 ERA, 6.70 K/9, 5.32 IP per start) vs. Derek Lowe (1.25 WHIP, .259 BAA, 3.69 ERA, 5.08 K/9, 6.17 IP per start) tonight! Wink

from Pierco's article today:

Quote:
Fast fact: Four regulars in the Diamondbacks lineup are hitting .400 or better in their career against Derek Lowe, the Dodgers' starting pitcher tonight. Those with at least 10 at-bats against Lowe and hitting .400 or higher are Eric Byrnes (8 for 14, .571), Craig Counsell (7 for 17, .412), Luis Gonzalez (9 for 22, .409) and Orlando Hudson (8 for 20, .400).

Tonight's lineup will be:

Counsell
Hudson
Gonzo
Byrnes
Estrada
Jackson
Tracy
Quentin or Young

I read the lineup, and immediately said to myself, "What is Counsell doing in there?"

OK, Counsell is 7-for-17 lifetime against Lowe.

So, lemme see if I got this figgered out...

When the numbers favor the veterans, play the veterans.

When the numbers favor the rookies... play the veterans.

Hey, I can channel BoMel...

But maybe that's not a good thing...?

Saw part of a Dodger game the other night and there must have been about twelve fans in the seats. And they're in a pennant race!!

Charlize feels that if we play a smart game against the ground ball specialist we'll be looking pretty good.

What happened to Young? Why the hell aren't they playing him other than the obvious <bomel being an idiot>?

Sweet!

IF single by O-Dawg and we have 'em at 1st and 2nd with nobody out.

Charlize doesn't feel that it is a stretch to bust at least one out here.

But what is depressing is the moves that BoMel is making -- and assuming that the FO approves. Is Counsell going to be back next year? If not, why is he in the game? Is Jackson going to be at 1B next year -- or is Tracy? Why do we only get a smattering of the guys who need to be developed, and a whole raft of guys on their way out?

And the only way it will be different next year is if some of the deadwood is cleared out, along with Gonzo...

I'm depressed... Mad

I think it's a very bad sign that the FO has apparently given Melvin so much influence over the most important assets of a very large business.

Claudio is looking pretty good through 3 and we have:

O. Hudson 2B 1-1
L. Gonzalez LF 0-1
E. Byrnes CF 0-1
C. Tracy 1B 0-0
J. Estrada C 0-1

due up in our 4th.

It's time to pounce on Lowe.
