Hudson has 74 hits since June 1, eighth best in the National League, to raise his batting average to a season-high .290, and is hitting .339 with 16 doubles, 10 home runs and 36 RBIs during the stretch. He has tied his career high in triples (seven) and stolen bases (seven) and is one short in homers (11).
A Gold Glove winner at second base in Toronto last season, Hudson has handled 580 chances, the most of any middle infielder in the major leagues.
His range enables the outfielders on his side to play deeper, and his ability as the middle man on a double play has helped D-Backs pitchers Miguel Batista (24) and Brandon Webb (23) rank 1-2 in the league in double play grounders. |

Yeah, O-Dog would be horrible if he wasn't so damn great.
I was going to comment to shoewizard that - while I never got to see it in person - now that I've watched O-Dog for a while...Royce Clayton was pretty damn good in his prime.
Feels good to swear again.

It really is amazing how good he's been lately and it isn't just recently. Since June 1 he's hit .335. He's also had a 1.057 OPS since the ASB. |

Maybe defensively but his two best seasons were 92 and 98 OPS+

For the folks that like BP's metrics, (both of us)....
Hudson is +13 FRAA and has a .268 Eqa now, (lg. avg for 2b is .255) and has already earned 5.1 WARP
Hudson's BP DT Card
(for anyone unfamiliar with BP, just click on the blue column headers for a brief explanation of what their numbers are about)
For those that prefer Zone Rating, he has moved up to 9th out of 23 qualified in the major leagues , with an .812 mark. Much better than before, and he HAS looked better the past couple of weeks.
ESPN 2b Zone Rating
Despite all my bitching, Hudson is amassing a good deal of value, playing better Def than he was earlier in the season, and Levski is closer to being able to say "I told you so" yet again.
Thats why he is the virtual GM and I am the bullpen coach. |

I've been very critical of Hudson's D all year, but I agree he has been better. He has made some GREAT plays, but still hasn't been consistently good/great. If he just wouldn't make the boneheaded plays, I'd get off his back. |

His elevation in defensive play seems to have coincided with the day that Drew became the SS.

Hudson defense has improved since the season started. I am not convinced that he's anywhere near as good with the glove as he is 'supposed' to be, though. Perfect guy to sell high on, especially after seeing what a space-case he is. |

Jackson's improvement probably factors into this as well.

Thanks, shoe. As much as I like to read about our D'backs on this site the more rewarding benefit for me is learning about baseball and how to understand all the information.
