Tuesday, September 19 PETCO Park | 7:05 PM MST

Livan Hernandez, RHP 12-12, 4.98
Diamondbacks (71-78 )

@
Clay Hensley, RHP 9-11, 3.83
Padres (78-71)

Scouting Report:
Hernandez only gave up three hits through seven innings to the Nationals in his last start on Wednesday. He ran into some trouble in the eighth when he gave up three straight hits to score a pair of runs. The veteran right-hander was charged with two runs on six hits over eight innings for his second straight dominant outing. He did not walk a batter and recorded five strikeouts.
Hensley is coming off another excellent effort against the Reds in Cincinnati on Thursday. The sinkerball artist went 6 1/3 innings, surrendering two earned runs on five hits while striking out a career-high seven and walking three. Since July 18, covering 11 starts, Hensley has yielded 18 earned runs in 65 2/3 innings for a 2.47 ERA. His biting slider has been a solid complement to his bread-and-butter sinker.

BM needs to keep Livan's 8th inning meltdowns fresh in his head. I don't care if he's throwing a shutout, pull him after 7.

Shouldn't that be, "I don't care if he's pitching a perfect game, pull him after 7?"

Curious to see how SD responds after that Dodgers game last night/Sunday night. You guys see/ hear about that?

They're legitimately in the thick of the race and need to hold off the Phillies for the WC. Don't expect the Padres to fold due to a disastrous finish in their last game.

Depends which rookies are playing.... More switching to significant games as well (like seeing more of the Twins than before and checking to see that the White Sox lose)

The Twins' magic number is 10, I believe, to make the playoffs. I love seeing the White Sox lose to begin with, but when you put a number on it..... well, it's about as sweet as it gets! I'd love to see them catch the Tigers, but just getting into the playoffs is pretty damn sweet. I still have no idea how they're one of the best teams in baseball.

Livan walks two to load the bases.....looks about to poop his pants here.

Drew's groin must still be hurting.

Just back from Oklahoma City, I see that in San Diego we have already given up two walks and one run.

Thom is suggesting that O-Dawg has a "legitimate" chance at a Gold Glove this year. Really?

Another walk by Livan... Mad Not good!

Sure. Great defensive reputation + past winner + likeable guy + career offensive numbers = lock.

And ANOTHER walk by Livan... Evil or Very Mad

The "innings eater" is also a stomach-lining eater...

Fortunately, Piazza didn't tie into one and we got out of the inning with a goose egg, but man, gotta stop putting all these runners on
