Looks like this team needs some REAL veteran presence , so I'll start todays game thread.

Bergman 0-1 6.66 ERA vs. Batista 10-6 4.44 ERA

Of course with Bergman's ERA being such an inauspicious number, he will probably throw a no hitter. Evil or Very Mad

Great, Melvin will probably see this, get even more in the veteran presence spirit, and start a lineup including Easely, Clark, Gonzo, Counsell, Byrnes and Estrada... Twisted Evil

Is BoMel playing so many PVs to show once and for all to the locals, that their past favorite veterans really suck? Making it easier in the offseason to let em go or drive down their bargaining price?

After last night's lineup, which included Easely and Andy Green, but no Q or Drew, anything appears possible...

If BoMel would consult today's gameday thread starter for the starting lineups, we would stand a MUCH better chance!

What are your thoughts behind the positioning of each of your 1-8?

Highest OBP vs. RHP makes up the starting 8, and ordered from highest OBP down to exploit maximum runners-on-base with times-at-bat.

The only exception was Montero, whom I assume you're putting in for needed playing time.

Yeah, well Snyder caught last night, and I would rather see Montero than Estrada.

Good thing we play other teams besides Washington and Tampa Bay otherwise we'd never win a game!

What an uninspired lineup... All the usual suspects in all the usual places... Byrnes leading off; Drew batting 8th...

I wasn't a Melvin supporter earlier in the season, nor was I opposed to him; every team has a manger... I figured Josh Byrnes knew what he was doing when they extended Melvin; but I can't say that I've seen any reason to support the decision since that time.

If Tracy's performance has declined since he got his extension, what can we say about the results since Melvin got his? And if this is a precursor of what's in store for 2007, oh my... that's not good...

that's pretty much how i feel about melvin too. at the start of the season, i was pretty neutral about him, but i leaned toward supporting him. now, i'm wondering wtf is wrong with the guy.

they might really, really need to fire this guy.

Miguel helps himself with the long fly to left, and Drew scores to make it 3-0!
