Hudson back soon?
When second baseman Orlando Hudson tore a ligament in his left thumb the first week of September, the timetable for his return was six to eight weeks.
Should the Diamondbacks advance past the Rockies, the World Series would get underway Oct. 24 - approximately seven weeks after the injury.
"I'm hoping," Hudson said. "But Augie's been doing a great job, man."
Fill-in Augie Ojeda has played well defensively and went 4 for 9 with a walk in the three-game division series sweep of the Cubs. |
Didn't think it'd be possible and that could provide a huge boost but like he said Ojeda has done an amazing job filling in.

The world series doesn't start until October 24th.
Hudson had the surgery on Sept 10, and the estimate for full recovery was 6 to 8 weeks. It really depends on how fast of a healer he is, and how comfortable he looks at the plate with the rebuilt thumb...
And of course it depends on whether the Dbacks can beat the Rookies.

dont even bother......his timing will be off and if we make it there, cant afford a guy that has not swung a bat in a game in 2 months

That was my first thought.... It's rare for a player to be off that long and retain his timing.... especially when he's not been able to swing a bat during that time.

Dave Burns was talking about this on KTAR last night. Hudson has done no baseball activity other than running since the surgery. Rust anyone?
Melvin said that if he were brought back for a WS after just 6 weeks of healing, it would most likely be in a limited role off the bench.

The way these 2 teams have matched up all year, a 7 game series equates to a lot of baseball.
And if the D-Backs continue to do what they've done most of the year, finding ways to win when they need to, part of me would like to see Orlando get his chance, because rightly so, for all he's given this team this year he does deserve it.
But on the other hand, having a gold glove 2nd baseman of Orlando's value, whose built similar to Ozzie Smith and could possibly play to age 40, like Omar Vizquel recently has, I'd sure hate to see him subject himself to re-injury.

I think in order to see Hudson in the World Series, I'd like to see him swinging a bat off the tee within a week, (October 18th) taking live batting practice by October 21st, and get into two instructional league games on the 22nd and 23rd in live game action. If he can do that, then I would think he could be a huge asset to have back on the team for the World Series.
But if all he has done come October 24th is take a couple of sessions of batting practice, I would be skeptical he could actually help the team, and I'd also be concerned about him re-injuring himself. |

Totally agree.

Orlando Hudson (left thumb) continues to dress and do conditioning work with the team as it advances in the postseason, but he has not swung a bat yet and the chances of his availability should the D-Backs advance to the World Series are basically nil.
