When Mark Reynold was called up, the D backs were 21-19.
Since he played in his first game the D backs have gone 53-39
(Not including tonights game)

From May 16-30 he played in 15 games and had a 1.299 OPS
The D backs went 11-4 in those games

From August 1-17 he played in 12 games, and had a 1.186 OPS
The D Backs went 9-3 in those games.

Thats 20-7 when Reynolds is hot.

The rest of the time he has sucked. And the D backs record in that span is 33-32

I don't think these numbers are coincidental.

EDIT:

Oh, and Reynolds is 1 for his last 20 with 15 K's, the one hit being tonights bunt base hit.

I think he needs to start next season at AAA, even if he has a good Spring. The same probably holds true for Upton also.

Can't argue with your numbers; but have to wonder about the correlation.

It's scary if the fate of the team rests on a rookie called up from AA in May... Shocked

On the other hand, if there is, in fact, a direct correlation to the success of Mark Reynolds and the entire team, someone gave $30M to the wrong guy... Wink

The correlation is that when he gets hot, he gets incredibly hot, and hits for A LOT of power......he becomes the proverbial "big bat" in the middle of the order. Thats what happens to this team with a big bat in the middle of the order.

The rest of the time, this team just doesn't have a middle of the order guy, and it kills the entire lineup.

right there is a natural plater, something the dbacks haven't had for a while, well maybe TC, not CJ's style. Be nice to have another guy like Reynolds who plates but unfortunately Drew's not doing it.

yeah, and the obp guys, Hudson byrnes and Cj aren't synergizing for a big bopper, but your analysis of the situation is spot on. Reynolds risp ability has been key for the club, Young, Pena and him are neck and neck, for team roy. Pena's ready for Lyon's role now. Can Lyon start, and pace himself for 60 pitches?

Nothing illustrated things better when I talk about CJ's method style. Cj obviously went up looking for an offspeed pitch, and two fastballs came down the can. Now he subsequently banged the high fastball mistake, but the first pitch Drew got hanging breaking pitch, after Cj's homer.

Cj will infuriate with his style, but he's a perfect 3 hole guy. The guy's going to have 370-4? obp for a big part of his career. Once he gets into a major groove, knowing when to expand the zones etc...its going to be a pretty awesome peak.

You mean to tell me we are a much better team without a hole at 3B?? I can't help but assume we have a pretty good record when Tracy is plating, also.

My point is that his extremes are so EXTREME

he is either Barry Bonds or Mario Mendoza, and nothing in between.

When he is Bonds, we rock, when he is Mendoza, it's like the last straw this struggling offense just can't take.

And he gets A LOT of at bats.

Too bad Reynolds has been doing a lot of walking back to the dugout after his AB's.

You think he'd help the team more by dragging his ass back to the dugout instead?

My opinion -

- That long HR that MR hit against ATL was the worst thing that could have happened for his development this year. There was a stretch before that, where he was shortening up, and concentrating on hitting back up the middle, and line drives. Soon after - He left that approach behind - looking for balls to crush.

Shoe,

Your comments were right on.
Just like the MR proves your theory the next day...

He might not have been talking about us. I think he was getting killed at deadspin during the playoffs last year for his hairdo and choice of ties or something.

Well he was BB last night. I don't see where he gets the power he does, but that HR was ridiculous.

Random fact of the day...
D-backs are 24-8 when Reynolds gets at least an RBI

LOL..thats not stealing. It wouldn't be too hard for anyone to make this correlation, assuming they follow this team pretty closely, which she does.
