So we're down 3-0 to the Rockies. I still believe this team can still come back and win it all. Even if that doesn't happen, I think it's worth pointing out the context of where we are, and the positives of this season.
Our Gold Glove second basemen is injured. Our starting third basemen is injured. One of our best pitchers is injured.
Our starting CF, RF, SS, 3b and back up catcher are rookies. Our starting RF started the year in High A, our starting 3b in AA. Not mention, our #4 starting pitcher is a rookie. Our starting second basemen is a journeyman minor leaguer. And not to mention this team has greatly underperformed projections offensively.
So what is the bright side of all of this?
Our team wasn't expected to contend this year. This team wasn't expected to win 90 games. This team wasn't expected to have the best record in the National League. This team wasn't expected to make the playoffs, let alone make it the league championship series.
This year has allowed the FO to integrate our young players into the team, allowing them to play every day. They've gained a lot of experience playing in a pennant race, and playing in the playoffs.
The bright side of all of this is that this isn't the end guys. This is just the beginning. The young guys are only going to get better. The offense is only going to get better. The defense is only going to get better. This is the start of a many years where we can not only be sure we're going to contend, we're going to expect to contend. This is the start of a new rivalry between the Diamondbacks, Rockies, and Padres. This is the start of a new era.

They had a great run this year.
They won a tightly contested division championship.
They swept the Cubs in the NLDS.
As a baseball fan, they game me a lot of highs and moments to enjoy this season.
*tip of the cap*
I stand and applaud your effort this year.

I would have thought the bright side would have been the Vegas odds at this point.
Once source I googled (at work ) showed Arizona at 20/1 to win the WS!
Seems very close odds for what would be such a monumental upset. I thought the odds would be much higher just to win the NLCS, much less the whole thing.
Wow.

Yup, no matter what happens... this team is here to stay. We've had moments of joy, frustration, incredulity... but all through it all, I've been proud to be a fan.
Thank you Dbacks, no matter what happens, for a heck of a season.
The last I looked, we're still in this. One win at a time. Anybody, anytime.

Was going to post a thread on my bright side for this series being the bullpen. They have looked really good outside of 1 inning from Valverde and I'm not going to blame him for that. |

Hopefully, the young guys will use this taste of the postsesaon as extra motivation. All of them have serious flaws in their respective games that need to addressed. I want them to come back hungry in '08. |

I think I would have been more devastated had we lost game 7 at home...
So there's some bright side to it...
The Dbacks have done everything they could to make sure they absolutely lose this series to the Rockies. They have had bad luck, they've been bad with runners in scoring positions, they've made bad pitches at the worst possible time, they've made errors on the bases and on defense...
... and yet, I think this season was a great success for the Dbacks. Another NL west pennant, their fourth overall in 10 seasons, and their first since 2002. On top of that, they advanced to the NLCS, unlike the 1999 and 2002 teams. And best of all, they really did it with young home grown players...
They'll be better next year. Here's to a great 2008.

They ought to be proud for coming as far as they have. I know it's going to be tough if they are swept tonight, but it will be a good lesson for the future.
I have enjoyed watching them and seeing them grow as players and as men. Remember, some of these kids are still two years ahead. I don't know of any other team that has this number of really young rookies that has done this well in the post season.
Nothing to hang their heads about, IMO. Just learn from this and be ready for next year- they're gonna kick ass.

The team's leading hitter in 2007 was pulled up from AA mid-year.
I'm proud of this team in spite of this painful sweep. They far outperformed any reasonable expections this season and will be nothing but better in 2008.

Was gonna say our off-season upgrades will be each player's improvement. Maybe above, say, .240...
That said, I'm mad as hell. Ya never know when we'll be back in the NLCS. Either way, this season ensured the future succcess of the franchise, with the expected increases in ticket sales and advertising for the next couple seasons. We have our own "stars", regardless if the east-coast media recognizes them or not.

Ditto that...
Other personal "bright sides" for me include a bit more time for watching movies, refunds on unused NLCS tix to pay bills, and no need to seek even higher priced WS tix .... but hope to use that saved $$ for next year's playoff run.

Wasn't there a disclaimer that there would be no refunds on unused playoff tickets and a credit would be applied to future ticket purchases/season tickets?

Not sure about the NLCS... They told me that they gave back the $$ on the unused game 5 of the Division series tho. Whatever... if applied for future, then I'll have some "free" tickets coming to me next season
