1. Anyone else notice that Quentin's quieted down at the plate?

2. Drew lashed a ball that was about knee-high on the outside corner for a base hit into left a couple days ago, and it was pretty. I was somewhat concerned about his ability to do that when watching him for the first couple of weeks. Tracy, for instance, tends to turn those into flares, if he can reach them at all this season.

3. Jackson seems to be hitting a lot of balls to the LC gap as of late, several for doubles. Is he a touch quicker turning on pitches now?

4. Young didn't seem to get all of that ball he hit over the centerfield wall the other day. Scary.

1. Yeah, he was out of control when he first came up. I think everybody told him to calm the F down. Or maybe he's just a little more calm internally than before

2. I think I saw Drew slap a low outside pitch between the 3B and SS early when he was called up, and I was soooooo fired up. Tracy tries to pull that pitch, and either rolls over or flares it. But Drew takes what's given to him and does what he can with it. He's already a big league hitter, and it seems like he has all the plays at SS. Gonna be fun for the next few years.

3. Jackson's sure got a big swing for how not hard he hits the ball. There's nothing behid the balls he hits. Like Webb has a "heavy" fastball, CJ has a "light" hit that comes off his bat.

4. I missed Chris Young's blast, and really haven't seen as much of him, but what I have seen looks awesome.

This whole team of our own guys is going to fun to watch next year, and then we're gonna be sick. Now go get a goddamn bullpen!!!

1. Q was swinging quite wildly for a bit. It could have been an excitement about being there coupled with his early success and subsequent struggles (pretty much useless in August). He has amazing bat speed, doesn't he use a lighter bat than usual? He has a 1.141 OPS in September.

2. I'm super excited about the number of triples Drew will hit next season. He's tied for 16th already and he has less than 200 AB. It's too bad he was called up so late, he could have been an ROY contender for sure. FYI, in 2005, four DBacks were tied for the team lead with 4 3Bs. Drew has 6.

3. Jackson has been (very quietly) kicking ass since the start of August. He hit .310/.383/.393/.776 in August and is hitting .303/.415/.515/.930 in September. Oddly enough, he only has 12 RBI and 19 R to show for it.

4. I havent' been able to see Young as much as I'd like to, I've been so busy lately. He does have some power. It's funny when guys like him and Soriano have such power because they don't look like they would. Pitchers are making an adjustment to him, hopefully his September won't be like Quentin's August. I would like to have him try and run a bit, see if he can steal some bases. Hopefully, next time we play the Padres he can give Piazza hell.

1.q-vulnerable, on the outside corner midthigh and down, f/b and breaking ball.. Breaking pitches away, he' s taking a lot better now. 80 percent of pitchers throw that for a ball anyway, so that if that pich isn't a hangar, he'll have no problem, laying of it. He needs to trust his power to c/r, not rc, because he has power and the ball jumps off his bat, especially at the bob of course. No sane pitcher wants anything to do now inner half on him, now. He's earned that much respect already. Ask Frank R. last night.

2. Drew, like his brother likes leftfield a lot. Hips then hands inside out with whip, this also allows him to hit lefthand breaking pitches with authority. In a couple of years he'll be putting up the 330 30 115 numbers.

3. CJ-Look for more power, inside is his only hole right now, he almost had two homers last night, but was centimeters off, his instinct on the inside fastball are dialing in. He's primarily a line-drive, hit it where's its pitched. Once he starts dropping the barrel on some of those inside fastballs, instinctively like last night, his only hole will be trying to hit homers. He's .340 hitter 50 double/ 25 homer guy.

4. Young-has the fastest bat out of all of them. Drew, Cj are the fire starters. Quentin's the leader. Young's the crusher. He'll probably hit more homers than all of them when he goes into streaks.

This may surprise you guys, since I'm primarily a small ball fanatic. But if Callaspo can be the lead-off guy. this is a station to station team.
Callaspo
Drew
Jackson
Quentin
Tracy
Young
/Montero/Snyder

Drew and Young, are the base stealers. The only question is, who's the Derek Jeter, the guy who's the proverbial glue it total, bringing the winning attitude. my thought is Q, and that's why I have him in the 4 hole.

Good call on Q

The book on him is he HATES to lose. He really really hates it....and has had a tough time watching the shit going on with all these proven veteran winners the team has now.

I too think he will emerge as a leader. I think he and Jackson, together, will make this THEIR team from a clubhouse perspective.

Excellent comments and scouting from everyone on the hitting mechanics.

I thought I remembered hearing that Q was a really quiet and reserved guy who didn't make a lot of noise (and therefore some thought he didn't care). I wouldn't think those are typical leadership qualities but I could be thinking of someone else.

Nothing wrong with being quiet. Those are the type of guys you hope the jerks, just start emulating through osmosis.

Worst leaders are the guys past their prime, or in their prime, and charasmatic that half the team doesn't trust, doesn't trust of feed off.

Best teams leaders though, are more symbolic than anything else. Webb for instance for the staff, right now.

The biggest disasters are when catchers, are the bad leaders. When pitchers hate their catchers, the situation becomes bizarre. So much to this topic, just like small ball, though.

best leaders are the ones, that don't even know they're leaders, and guys just start emulating, going back to the symbolic. Jeter is the Captain Yankee, just because ,and no one's moving him from his postition either. he'll be on the plane last game of the year, even if the team is out of it, with overnight delays because he hates being anywhere else, even if the other stars aren't.

Exactly! Irony is that we should be seeing that team on the field RIGHT now. All the more reason to make SURE that BoMel isn't given any broken down rusty parts to play around with next season.

I think this team is already Webb and Tracy's, and will remain that way. Some of the younger guys will be more verbal in the clubhouse - I see Q much more than CJ - but they will defer to Webb and Tracy cuz of they were already here.

Drew has gotten away from mashing the ball the other way, against good offspeed, breaking ball pitchers. matt morris, Sanchez, you have enough of their attention, that they've beared down against you. Make them pay by depositing it in the left field bleachers. Heck, give me a call, I'll tell you how they're going to pitch to you, and which ones are going to hang one to you, that you can deposit to right.
