Maybe a little early for discussion, but we've got a few spare days so what the heck. |

I think he's learned his lesson about listening to his doctors, and will stay on their schedule. He should be ready for Game 2 of the opening series, assuming that is where he would be in the rotation. And I think he's more comfortable in Phoenix, where in NY every game is under constant scrutiny. |

I selected "Meh"
But yes, we'll get tons more out of RJ next year. I've got a double-or-nothing bet with shoewizard riding on RJ in 2008

I voted Meh as well. IMHO, I think that he will probably start out okay. I really hope he maintains his healthy back and knees the whole season...

RJ... CY Young 2008... or damn close. I don't think anything is going to stop him. Which is why, FWIW, I don't understand why everyone's panties are in a bunch about a new pitcher.
Webb
Johnson
Davis
Owings
Eveland/Murphy
3 LHPs and 2 righties. Smells good to me.
And I'm not doscounting a Scherzer/Anderson appearance. Especially if RJ craps out. Which I don't think is going to happen. But.

I have no faith in Eveland or Murphy. Both are relievers in my mind.
Methinks the Dbacks will try hard to acquire another starter this winter.

Agree with Lev. And forgive me if this has been discussed before, but what about Matt Clement? He'll be a free agent, and even though he's 33 and coming off of shoulder surgery, but I always liked his makeup. In fact, I always thought we should sign him instead of Ortiz (they were in the same free agent class). Does anyone think he's worth taking a flier on if the price isn't too unreasonable?

In its simplest form:
I hope to see Randy on the mound more and on the DL less for 2008.

Wow... people sure soured on Eveland quick.
But you guys could be right with RJ not being definite as of yet... and the perennial question of an Owings 3rd pitch... another starter on the way.
Can Carlos Quentin learn to pitch? He's got the arm. And the batting average.
I'm glad Josh isn't going to go the FA route, because most of this class stinks.

Owings needs play a position in the filed on the days he isn't pitching. He's too good a hitter not to be in the everyday lineup. |

Dana has solid minor league record. He also hasn't done anything to convinve anyone over the last 2 seasons that he should be on a major league roster. The world is littered with failed prospects.
And Josh will surprise us in the offseason. That's for sure. Whether we'll be happy or not is another story...

I just hope we let RJ wait until he is fully healthy. If that is late June then so be it. Would rather have those last 3 months of a healthy Randy then to have him rush back and be injured in 10 starts or less. |

I'm not expecting anything out of Johnson in '08. Actually, that just about goes for every internal candidate not named Webb. The D-backs have a deeply flawed pool from which to pull ~128 starts next year. It doesn't seem like much of a stretch to envision a collapse from Davis or Owings and the rest of the guys not making any progress. |
