I really want to know who the minor leaguer is.
And shame on JB for trading in the division to the guys that could spoil it for us. |

Wow. The pitcher doesn't look too bad, but wow. I guess Scotty never really escaped the dog house the team's had him in for years.

Rosales looks to have good stats, but he was often old for his league. My guess is that San Diego would lose him as a free agent after this season and AZ would have no place for Hairston (considering he can only play LF and not CF/RF). Seems like a trade of convenience for both.
Scott Hairston has been freed! |

This kind of sucks. If we were going to trade Hairston, I was hoping to package him in a deal for an impact player. |

I would have much rather had him freed to a team not in the NL west, but good for him.

Good for Hairston.
Way to sell high, FO.
If he does anything at all in the next few years, the organization better have their mea culpas ready. |

Well, I called this in the other thread.
I guess our "Free Scott Hairston" movement worked.
Traded for a AAA closer. I wonder if this means there's another trade in the works involving one of our relievers?
Man, what is JB thinking trading Scott away to our division rivals?! I can see this coming back and biting the Dbacks on the ass someday.
I need to find a scouting report on this pitcher... and I need Levski or Shoe or somebody to tell me how this makes sense.
Good luck to you Scotty!!! Hopefully you do great in SD when you're not playing the Dbacks.

I don't know, it's not that big of a deal. He'll be taking AB's away from Cruz but he won't take many from Cameron, Bradley, or Giles. |

here's a thought...I wonder if this could be a precursor to a Loretta to the Padres rumors that have been floating around. Like maybe Hairston's gonna be used as part of a deal to get Loretta to SD? |

He's probably not going to do any better there. That ballpark is huge. I could careless if he went there or if it were an AL team. Just me, though.

David B might be familiar with the pitcher up in Portland.

Re: scouting report:
Here's what I found in Sickels' book:
His fastball is average at 89-91 MPH, but he has a nasty curveball, and he is aggressive about attacking hitters. His command is sharp, and he is very efficient. Yes, we need to see what happens at higher levels, but I am optimistic about him. C+ |

I've stayed out of the Scotty debate, but frankly I like CQ better. He's both youner and cheaper and honestly has more up side than Scotty did. Like always, I could be wrong and I hope I am, as long as scotty isnt playing against us.
Good Luck Scotty

Helping SD? If anything, they're helping us for taken him off our hands.
I wish him luck, though.
