 |
|
WELL THIS IS A BUNCH OF CRAP....
Marlins signed RHP Byung-Hyun Kim for the remainder of the season.
We like it. The Marlins saved some cash by giving Kim to the Diamondbacks on waivers early this month, and now they'll have to pay him only the minimum over the rest of the season. Before going to Arizona, Kim had a 4.16 ERA in 13 starts and one relief appearance for Florida. He'll probably work out of the pen for now, but it's likely that he'll make some starts in September. |

If nothing else, some pretty creative financing in Florida...
Anybody at the Marlins a former fundraiser for a national political party? |

It's pretty funny, except we're the butt of the joke. |

Actually, we end up saving some money in this move, as the Marlins will pay the remaining portion of a major league salary (~ 1/5th of 400K, or 80K) and the Dbacks will pay the difference of what remains on Kim's old contract (say, 800K minus 80K). Small consolation, but what the hell, it's Moorad's money.

At this point we save some money, but on the overall, the Marlins make out like bandits. We pick up 40% of Kim's salary.. 800K, get blown out twice, and then give him back to the Marlins for $85K.. so he cost us about 715,000 for two starts...
And I liked the move, with him coming off a 10 strikeout game for the Marlins.. |

Wow, 36.00 ERA for the season. 4 ER's tonight in 1 IP tonight. Makes me sad for Kim.

This is comedy ....
JB will think twice next year, before putting a claim on a waiver...

Seems to me the Marlins could have made better use of a roster spot, bargain basement price or not. |

If Kim can beat the Phils and Braves coming down the stretch, this money may be well spent.
With all the talk about EB, the minors and the like with Hall and Morrad, all UNC Steve wanted to know was that if the Dbacks won the WS, would Kim get a ring.
Answer was Yes.
That would make three for Kim. Good team just follwo him around. |

So we took his pay off of FLA's back. Pitched him in one game, against FLA where Kim easily gave them the win over us. Then we let him go and FLA picks him up and he's impressive in his next outing for them.
Sounds like a little Jorge Julio revenge there (especially since that's who initially brought them Kim). |

In case you didn't see the link, he was less than impressive tonight. 4 ER in 1 IP.

Kim goes 6 tonight, giving up 3 runs and 7 hits, 0 walks and 7 K's. He leaves in line for the win with the Marlins up 5-3.

I think the pressure was just too much for Kim this go-round with the DBacks and he couldn't handle it....
It's not like he's been stellar since he left us again, he just has had good run suppport.... and 3 wins in 4 games |

Good run support... hmmm... That hasn't ever been a problem for the Diamondbacks, has it?
This situation -- he stunk out the joint when he was on our team, but does well somewhere else -- is just another one of those examples of the quirkiness of the universe, along with how the line of traffic that had been moving by you before you pulled into it suddenly becomes the slowest lane once you're there; or how you always choose the slowest line at the grocery store or bank...

As bad as that truism is... I have to remind myself that I'm lucky that I don't live in Italy.
That will make no sense to anyone who's not experienced Italy
