My first thread, I know its early. LaRussa is a cagey guy but, hitting Conor, with Webb pitching a shut-out after his guy Carp got shelled. Hey LaRussa/Duncan. here comes the Stro's. Nervous. Put me in charge, and Jorge Julio would start tomorrow, and I guarantee you, the Cards would have at least 4 batters in the first. The first two would hopefully be retired. The third one, well, he might make it to first, and he would see at least two pitches. I hope his hands/ribs aren't necessary for the playoffs.

<Overheard later today in the tunnel near the Cardinals locker room...>

"Pssst! Hey, buddy! Yeah, you, Jeff Suppan! Wanna make an extra $200? All ya gotta do, the first time Johnny Estrada comes to bat, is hit him in the arm with a fast ball... Yeah, that's right, the name's Snyder... but don't tell nobody!"

Why start Young when some journeyman spaz who won't be on the team in two years is playing his worst baseball of the season?

Wow, what a quiet gameday thread. Everybody must have left to watch the football game.

Great series by our boys to take 3 of 4 from the Redbirds.

I just assumed the web site was down...

Glad to see we pulled off three of four. It is however just another example of how Enrique should be shut down for the season.

They booted him before he ever got out to the field for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout. Tony just decided to get his money's worth and ice Enrique on the mound as he patiently waited for Tony's tirade to end.

And guess who's in sole possession of 20th place on the doubles list?

watching the game i was struck by a few items...
bomel cannot manage. he pitches to pujols w/ 1st base open & the opposing pitcher on 2nd! i couldn't believe what i was seeing! of course, pujols hits it out...
gonzo is playing for next yrs contract. but his defense is poor. and having him here will not make a difference. so let him go! i'd rather see hairston in left.

Wow. Not much coverage of today's game here... We were taking our oldest back to school at NAU, and listened to as much of the game as was possible, given it was on low-power 860-AM, and the signal faded out as we got to Flag with the score just having been tied at seven. It wasn't until we were about an hour south that we learned the final score! Way to go, Dbacks!

I think 1golfer1 is correct when he says that Gonzo is playing for next year's contract. I would also prefer to see Hairston/DaVanon in LF next season, no matter how good Gonzo's numbers are at the close of the season.

Tracy certainly appears to have played for an extension, hitting .308/.359/.553 in 2005 and .301/.363/.517 through May 14, 2006, the day before signing his contract extension.

His 2006 line today: .275/.334/.432

I don't believe it's an intentional act by Chad, but what a coincidence!

Is Enrique going to finish the season, then? He's looked bad for some time now - it shouldn't be a difficult decision to play it safe when a guy is getting lit up like him.

Amazing that Drew's hand, groin, and fever all cleared up at once . . .

The way the team is screwing around with Young is getting old real fast, too.
