Again no birthdays. I feel a little bit better on this one. Snell has pitched well lately and Doug hopes he has found the flaw in his machanics. I hope he's right because I want this sewed up before we go to Colo. I know we need more than this one but, this could be the hardest of the three with Pitsburg. Go- D'Backs

It would be really nice to see Doug reel off a couple of solid outings in his last two starts... the wins would be nice, and his peace of mind going into the playoffs would be excellent...

Ok, Doug, 7 innings, 1 run, 7 strikeouts. You can do it.

He may not get a two starts before the p-----f's. They might give some one else the start so that he could pitch the second or third game in the P-----f's. That's right I'm still not going to say the word yet! Go- D'Backs

Davis, who won eight of his nine decisions after the All-Star break, said he believes he again has made the necessary adjustments after having given up 12 earned runs in 13 1/3 innings over his last three starts.

“I’m just rushing myself, not getting my front shoulder open,” Davis said. “I do it constantly. I’m throwing well, getting strike one, strike two, and then gradually my walks increase from two to four. I just have to work on my (hip) rotation.”

Davis (13-11) brings a career high in victories into his start against Pittsburgh today.

“There is a lot to his delivery,” Arizona manager Bob Melvin said. “It’s very slow and methodical. Parts are moving every which way. When we’ve seen him at his best … he’s (throwing) strike one. It’s not like he can’t pitch when he is behind. He’s done that his whole career.”

Davis also is scheduled to start the final game of the regular season at Colorado on Sunday, although that could change if the D-Backs have clinched a postseason berth by then.

AND BETTER THEY WILL SHIT!

Fwiw, Davis has sucked in Pitts over the years. We all want him to have a great start today, and the Buccos sure are struggling lately, but I also think that Melvin should have a rather quick hook tonight if Davis is sucking early on. The Dbacks need wins BADLY, and their pen is rested.

i think you're right. I also think that Melvin has showed lately (especially in the Davis and Gonzalez starts) that he'll take the pitcher down before it gets out of hand.

Everytime Davis comes out and says he's figured out his mechanical funk, he usually comes out and has a good start.

Doug's career K/BB and HR/9IP are all good at PNC Park but he gives up too many hits (1.867 WHIP) leading to too many runs (6.23 ERA) when pitching in the Pitt.

Why so much more challenging in Pitt? Weather/humidity affecting grip, rotation, or stamina? If so, 87 degrees and 60% humidity today might not be a good thing.

Bad air? Bad food? It can't be high-powered offense as his one outing there this year was forgettable.

I'm going with bad mechanics and believing that it's taken care of today. Cool

and that Bob has a quick hook if it's the weather, air, or food

I'm no scientist, but i was under the understanding that humidity deadened the ball and made it harder for it to travel.

Also that the thicker air allowed for more movement on your pitches, (this can sometimes be a problem for people with sometimes uncontrollable movement).

I think your assumption that it was bad mechanics is probably correct. Cool

They have been playing mostly their starters and vets, except they have had Nyjer Morgan leading off and dicking around with the 2 spot.

3-4-5-6 have been pretty consistent with their veterans

I was just informed there is a 40% chance of rain Wednesday and 50% chance of rain Thursday. Can you imagine if they lose tonight, and get rained out on Wednesday.....They'd then have to try to get a double header in on Thursday, with the threat of rain.......boy o boy!!

Worst case scenario, can you imagine if they went to Colorado after having TWO games rained out in Pittsbugh? They would have to go in and win at least 2 in Colorado to make the Pittsbugh games moot, otherwise they would have to go BACK to Pittsbugh and try to get that double header in on October 1st.

I know I know...I worry too much.

If Davis is able to locate his fastball tonight, he'll be fine. Hopefully these adjustments he's been working on adressed exactly that.

A win tonight will be a great start to this series.

IMHO, Today we are IN THE CATBIRD SEAT:
Every team has 6 games to play: Total wins
ARIZONA 88
METS 87
PHILLIES, PADRES 85 - 4 wins and we lock them both out and punch our tickets and board the "October Express"
ROCKIES 84 - 3 wins and the Rockies can only hope for a wild card
CUBS 83 - 2 wins and they can forget about best record
BRAVES 82 - They need to sweep the Phillies or the "Miracle Braves of 2007" come up short
BREWERS, DODGERS 80 - Thinking about next year

I hear that Morgan loves to fight and cause trouble. Not that there's anything wrong with that.....as long as he's not a Dback.
Rest well, Milton Bradley. The Nippon Ham Fighters could use a guy like you.

What effect would 3-4 hour rain delays have on our team? There was a Yankees-Tigers game a short while back that was supposed to start at 7PM Eastern and the first pitch wasn't until 11PM due to rain and they were still playing after 2:30AM. Or was it 3:30AM? The game went extra innings as well.

The last thing we need are for extra-curricular events to commence. Let's get these games done and get the hell out of there.

DD gets it done tonight!!!

And hope like H it doesn't snow in Denver. Fortunately the long range forecast looks good. For the next ten days, sunny skies with highs in the low 70s and lows around 50 every night.
