Since September 6th, Bonafacio has 4 starts, Augie has 3, and Callaspo has 1
8G 33 PA 31 AB 9 hits, 1 double, no homers, no triples, 4 runs, 2 RBI, 2 walks 3 K's
.290/.333/.322 .655 OPS
Although Hudson had not been hitting with the power he had earlier in the season, since the All Star break, he was keeping his OBP up and at least showing a LITTLE bit of pop
.290/.369/.420 .789 OPS
This drop in production at second base is something this team could ill afford.
I know it is fun to watch E Bone run around the bases, but I still hold out hope that Callaspo will find his major league stroke...as he is the only one of the 3 capable of approximating Hudson production on offense. |

Using a down and dirty rc formula (OBP*slg*pa) I get a difference of 1.6 runs for these 8 games. In which I think the Dbacks are 5-3.

Well, I guess I may be overstating the effect...however if that trend continues it would be about 4.2 runs in total over 21 games. How many runs totals a win again? I forget. |

10 runs is the rule of thumb. Add some VP, defense and synergy and a game lost is a good guess.

Flip flopping this around.....
Would it make sense for the D Back to trade Hudson during the off season for pitching, and have a 2b competition between Callaspo and Bonafacio?
I think that Augie has pretty much cemented himself into a utility role for next year. As good as he has played, I still don't see him as anything more than a backup. But I really like his defense, and he seems to be the perfect guy to backup the middle infielders.
So if the D backs feel that Callaspo or Bonafacio are able to fill 2b, and feel that Drew might actually hit next year, should they explore Hudson's trade value? Or is impending free agency just going to depress his trade value to the point where it's not worth it?
And finally, who besides the Mets might be looking for a serious upgrade at 2b? The Mets are a team that could get him to sign an extension, I'm sure....so becoming a FA after 08 might not be as big a deal with them. Do they have a pitcher available who would be worth giving up Hudson for?
Just thinking...just asking questions. |

Cubbies might be an option. |

I don't see a trade market for Hudson. He's staying.

I wouldn't trade Hudson. Callaspo hasn't shown that he can be as effective as Hudson at the plate, and while E-Bone might be a good option as a backup in '08 and potential starter in '09, I'm not sure he's ready for the bigs yet. Either way, you'd be taking a heck of a risk. |

Unless there's some great return for Hudson, I'm not enthusiastic about handing over 2b to Bonifacio/Callaspo in '08. Right now there's too many question marks about next year's offense. |

E-bone needs another year in the minors, and the Dbacks need to figure out what they'll do with Callaspo. Incidentally, you probably want to hang onto Callaspo just in case Drew just never gets hot... If Drew's still hitting .220 on July 1st, we've got a big problem on our hands, and aside from Callaspo, the Dbacks don't have a major league ready shortstop in the system.

It'll be frustrating, sure, but Drew is very replaceable. I'm more worried that he does just enough to scrape by for a couple of years. He is going to receive the benefit of the doubt for longer than he deserves it and will be in a position to hurt the team because of that.

I would honestly keep Hudson around.
But I am with you with Augie cementing his spot on the team next year.
Augie, TC, and Salazar.
Cirllio's real good for us too.
It's amazing how many guys are contributing for us.
