Yesterday, I posted about the Devil Rays increasing payroll by 20%. Today, more Tampa talk! Two Marc's with a "C" have the scoop: Marc Lancaster and Marc Topkin both reported that lefty ace and ::ahem:: AL strikeout leader Scott Kazmir (or as the Mets refer to him: The One Who Got Away) has called upon management to bring in some veterans.

Hey, Scott! Rather than asking the owners of the TB team to increase payroll (currently $7M before revenue sharing, according to MLB Trade Rumors) to bring in more veterans, ask -- or even demand -- to be traded to a team that some considered not ready to contend: the Arizona Diamondbacks!
We have some veterans we can send them...

Anybody who actually knows anything about baseball Scott, doesn't consider the D-Rays the laughingstock of baseball anymore....well ok, the defense is, but still.

I will go on record saying that the Devil Rays will be a force by 2009. No Devil Rays fan thinks the winning with come with the current nucleus of players but rather the players like Desmond Jennings, Evan Longoria, and David Price. I always compare baseball projects to the 1991 Braves. Right now we are in year 1989 with two good arms, a superstar, and a couple of role players.
Any payroll increases should be used for bulpen help but not Scott Eyre type money. |

Rays can get Gonzo for hometown discount rate. Just assure him regular playing time!
