We hear a lot about little ball, get them over, etc. There is an oxymoronical stat called productive outs that measures the percentage of times a team makes a PO. This year, as usual, there is a correlation between productive outs and winning. The correlation, as in years past, is a negative one. Productive outs seem to lead to losing.
4 of the top five teams in productive out percentage are Washington, Pittsburgh, San Fran and Tampa Bay. Smart heady teams here who know how to play the game. The Rockies are the the fifth team in the top 5 and it is unlikely that they will make the playoffs despite all of their talent.
The Dbacks are 19th. The Angels are the "highest" rated team in PO's to make the playoffs at 8th. Then the Pads (if they make it) at 14th.

I would have thought we were dead last. Seems like every time we get men on 1st and 2nd, they just stand there 99% of the time.

They have bigger problems than productive outs.

Yes--how on earth we made it this far without being 3.6 compliant, I'll never know!

Probably not. That clown always referred to Colangelo as "Cold Hand", Joe jr as "garage-eola", and was usually all over Melvin's ass for everything possible.

Wonder what rock those two are hiding under right now...
Edit: I didn't intend to imply that Dangerfield was the source of the 3.6 nonsense, so apologies to Rodney...

Not surprising at all. It really is pathetic that despite a mountain of proof, so many people still cling to an outdated line of thinking. It's like trying to ague with someone who thinks the world is flat. |
