This is what is "Set"
9/21 vs. LA: Hernandez
9/22 vs. LA: Webb
9/23 vs. LA: Gonzalez
9/24 OFF
I see Three possible Scenarios after that:
Scenario A)
9/25 @ Pitt: Davis
9/26 @ Pitt: Hernandez
9/27 @ Pitt: Webb
9/28 @ Col: Gonzalez
9/29 @ Col: Owings
9/30 @ Col: Davis
OR
Scenario B
9/25 @ Pitt: Owing
9/26 @ Pitt: Davis
9/27 @ Pitt: Webb
9/28 @ Col: Hernandez
9/29 @ Col: Gonzalez
9/30 @ Col: Owings
Or
Scenario C
9/25 @ Pitt: Owings
9/26 @ Pitt: Davis
9/27 @ Pitt: Hernandez
9/28 @ Col: Webb
9/29 @ Col: Gonzalez
9/30 @ Col: Owings
I think I like Scenario A, |

I like A too.
It minimizes the the back half of the rotation while keeping Webb out of colorado.
hopefully Davis finds his command, or whatever is going on with him. We're nowhere without an effective Davis, imo.
Colorado is scary. Hopefully we're in the position where we only need to win one game by that time....or even none, really.

Doug thinks he's tipping his pitches in some way.

I like A as well, with a quick hook on Gonzalez in colorado with Eveland and Murph ready to go. |

I've read and heard it in several interviews. Don't have a link off the top of my head (though when I tried linking my head the mouse just kept slipping off.)

With the way our bullpen's been pitching, how much depth we have down there right now, i think its fair to say that they should ALL have a quick hook.

Doug Davis' struggles against the Dodgers on Friday night, when he allowed six runs (four earned) in 4 2/3 innings, were something new for the left-hander, who never had allowed an earned run against Los Angeles in his career.
Davis noticed something from Dodgers hitters that made him think there might have been more to his bad night than just making bad pitches.
"I just kind of felt like I was tipping pitches for some reason," he said. "I felt like the curveball, they were on it every time. I'm going to look at the tape and see if I find something."
Nick's always a good source to check.

I like A as well. I'd like to keep Livan and Webb as far as possible from COL.
They haven't seen Edgar or Owings as much, and they both showed some big cajones on their last outings.
But like whatuwant said, short leash on everybody. Melvin HAS to be proactive in pitching decisions. The margin for this team's error is as small as can be.

My eyes bled from the title too, but there was better stuff further down.

What he's going to find is that his inability to consistently locate his fastball for strikes forced him to rely on his curveball more for throwing strikes. What the Dodgers did was realize Davis was struggling to throw his fastballs for strikes, was wild and overthrowing out of the zone with his fastball at times, and the Dodgers started sitting on his curveball, which was the only pitch Davis was able to get into the strike zone consistently. If the opposing pitcher can only get his curveball into the strike zone, hitters will use common sense and realize the curveball is going to be the pitch in the zone worth swinging at.
What was the point of chasing fastballs out of the zone, when a hitter could take those for balls, get ahead in the count and sit on a curveball that was eventually coming before the AB ended?
The curveball became a tipped pitch based on count and inability to throw fastballs for strikes consistently. The hitter could think, "He's got to throw me the curve now. That or I'll take a walk."
BOOM

When I watched Webb pitch in SF, the 4 runs he gave up didn't come from lack of desire or effort to pitch big when the team needs wins. He looked tired.
He bore down and got outs when he needed to.
Whose thrown more innings this year than Webb? If any pitcher in baseball has a right to feel tired and worn out right now its Brandon Webb.
The man threw 3 CGs in August for fuck's sake!
Has he gotten an extra days rest since his 42 scoreless innings run?

At this moment in time, I like option A the best as well. The only point I would make that would also favor option A is that allows Owings to be available in this Sunday's game as well. Yeah Edgar has pitched a couple very nice games, but they were in SF and LA. Let's see how he is back at Chase. If he struggles at all, with the thinking I have two young starters (Owings regular rest, Gonzalez on two extra days) rested and I think going into the game, I will use both of them if need be. |

according to a few news outlets, I found this written many ways, but all have the same meaning.

Yes. the streak Ended Aug 22 vs. Milwaukee. His next start was Aug 28th, so he had 5 days rest, not 4. Also, since a season high 119 pitches on August 11th, here has been his pitch count by start:
Aug 11, 119
Aug 17, 102
Aug 22, 99
Aug 28, 92
Sep 2, 104
Sep 7, 86
Sep 12, 74
Sep 17, 83
They have been EXTRA careful with hims since Aug 11. He got an extra day's rest for his Aug 17 start, then he got an extra days rest for his Aug 28th start, and in his last 3 starts he's averaged just 81 pitches. Kind of makes you wonder if something is wrong.

I assume, (and hope) that Edgar will be on a short leash on Sunday, with Owings as his "Caddy".

Is there a scenario where Livan is pitching for the Newark Bears?
The guy is an embarrassment. I can't believe how awful he's been this year.
