Peavy going for SD, Hendrickson for LA.
I hope Micah pitches like he did earlier this season vs. WAS. I think it was 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H
I'd like to see him go 6 or 7 innings, though. <Wouldn't we all?

Pen should be VERY well rested, thanks to Webb. Day off tmw.
Melvin should have a quick hook today. |

Wanna bet he still tries to get 5 from Ownings? Please that Ownings pitches well enough to take this decsion out of BoMel's hands.

Why is Owings continuing to get starts? I've had enough of him. Petit is better in every way. |

misterx has tempted the wrath of the baseball gods with his pre-7:00 gameday thread start. The mob is waiting in the wings should Owings or the D-backs falter today...

6-4 in Cincinnati...Peavy out of the game. Hoping for some late magic from the Reds. |

Hendrickson got pounded by STL...8-2 in the 4th inning. Dodgers are fading. |

Except for Young batting leadoff (because Hudson isn't comfortable doing so), this lineup is almost perfectly sequenced by OBP.

Bob Melvin is a genius. It takes a special mind to put your 8th worst OBP man in the leadoff spot.
The only thing dumber is batting Owings leadoff.

Fast hitters lead off. Leading off is what fast hitters do. Young is fast. |

From mlb.com:
Quote: |
Scouting Report:
Nationals: After having an easy first inning, Bacsik ran out of steam last Tuesday. In the second inning, the Giants took a 2-0 lead, but the Nationals suddenly jumped ahead, 3-2. By the bottom of the fifth, the two clubs were in a 4-4 tie until Barry Bonds hit Bacsik's 3-2 pitch over the right-center-field wall to give San Francisco a one-run lead. Manager Manny Acta said that Bacsik was too pumped up and threw almost nothing but fastballs during the game.
D-backs: Owings allowed four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Pirates, striking out five and walking three. He kept the Pirates at bay most of the game, but a three-run fourth in which four straight batters reached with one out did him in. Still, manager Bob Melvin said Owings threw the ball reasonably well, with better location than during his previous struggles. Owings remained winless in his past eight starts dating back to June 20, although he has pitched better in his last two outings after posting a 9.52 ERA in five July starts. He earned his first career victory on April 5 against the Nationals by throwing one-hit ball over five shutout innings. |

No.....
According to Wikipedia....
He signed a contract with the Washington Nationals on February 9, 2006 with an invitation to Spring Training. He made just one start in Spring Training and gave up 6 runs in 0.2 innings before getting cut in April. Afterwards, he signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had an impressive minor league season with the Diamondbacks Triple-A team, the Tucson Sidewinders, in which he went a perfect 11-0 with a 2.79 ERA in 28 games (10 starts). He became a free agent after the 2006 season and later signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals again on November 6, 2006. In between assignments he interned for BaD Radio and spent time with his uncle, the Undertaker.[citation needed] |

Bacsik is Mark Calaway's nephew? I worked out with Mark at Golds Gym once in the early 90's when he was in San Jose for a show. Quiet serious guy.

For anyone that doesn't use it, Wikipedia is a really neat website. It is basically an online encyclopedia that is updated by the member base.
The Dbacks players and the tean are VERY VERY unrepresented compared to most teams...
Alot of people update the site real time. Yesterday, after Ankiels 2nd home run, I clicked on Wikipedia to read about him, and it had already been updated that he had hit the 2nd homers...
If someone with time and knowledge of the Dbacks had a care, it would be a great project to update the Dbacks listing on Wikipedia... |

It's crazy how much the Internet has changed information. I thought I was an information God, when I was allowed to check out the 1974 Encyclopeida (It was 1980) from the reference section...
I always hated that I had to wait two days to catch the Stl. Cards stats results in the newspaper, cuz the game ended to late...
Now you can follow every game pitch by pitch.. What a change in one generation... |
