I've seen several blurbs on Smoltz's discontent with the Braves not picking up his 8MM option for next year by now. What's the hold up on the part of the Braves? This one seems like a no-brainer, why not get it done and avoid the irritation?

i know there's been a lot of tension this season between smoltz and scherholz -- mainly from smoltz publically criticizing management over not going out to get veteran help for their "playoff race."
he's their gonzo... just more productive.
