Hank revealed last night that the secret to winning game-day threads is attending the games you start, so I'll follow his example today.
Jason Marquis, RHP (14-13, 5.73)
vs.
Brandon Webb, RHP (14-6, 3.14)
At a glance...
Marquis, an extreme groundball pitcher during his first two years in St. Louis, has been just the opposite in 2006. His groundball ratio is in the bottom third of National League pitchers, and perhaps it's not a coincidence that he's posted his highest career ERA. Marquis has to keep the ball down and in the park to be at his best.
Webb held the Nationals to just three hits and one runs over the first seven innings of his last start, but like his fellow Diamondbacks starters recently, he got into trouble and relinquished a lead. Webb allowed four runs in the eighth inning, sending him to his second loss in his past three decisions. Webb has never beaten the Cardinals in his career, going 0-2 with a 5.93 ERA. |

If you're looking for 1 guarantee for tonight's game, this is it:
Gonzo will start in LF. We know this because
1) He hit well last night
2) Marquis is a RHP
3) He's a career 5 for 16 against Marquis
So step up...anybody else with any guarantees for this game? |

At least ONE of the top rookies WILL ride the pine tonight. (BoMel's gotta assuage the p.v. egos as much as possible)

if drew is still sick, i see why they have to keep him out of the lineup. but counsell at leadoff is too much, bomel. too too much.

Well, at least Byrnes isn't leading off. Of course if Young were in the lineup instead of Byrnes or Gonzo, we wouldn't have this problem. |

After last night's 13 run 16 hit outing, Shakira is hoping that our sticks are still on fire.

"sticks on fire" would've been a good joke for last night, with christina "i'm std-o-licious" aguilarlarlara as our mojo!

Shakira is relegated to follow along on CBS GameCenter. She just discovered that there is no feed and she can not watch the game...

he hit it and at first i thought it would be a hard lineout, but it stayed up. then i thought it would be a double, but it stayed up. it stayed up until it hit the top of the wall and shot off into the crowd. wow.
