I've lost all faith in this team this year. Our offense is just embarrasing and our pitching is most definitely coming back to earth.

It all depends on how much they're willing to cheat.

I'm willing to stay optimistic for the whole season, like I always do.

They were way over .500 last year, too, and they came back to earth. I suspect they will do the same this year. The peripheral numbers do not support a contending record.

Yeah know, when we first returned to the NL, I figured things would pick up again....well we've gone 3-10 in that stretch. And we aren't just losing, we're getting destroyed.

Things aren't looking good, that's for sure....

Blow outs are just indicative of the obvious "bad baseball" they've been playing lately. And with the offense consistently sucking while the pitching had been over achieving... and with the run differential getting increasingly negative.... odds are certainly NOT in favor of being over .500 by the end of the year.

If Webb gets little to no run support today, then they will fall to 3-10 since starting the Dodgers series at Chase, where it all seemed to turn to shit. They're definately limping into the All-Star break. With no end in sight to the offensive slumps that have plagued this team.

Funny thing about the Reds, as bad as their overall record is, they're playing .500 ball right now over their last 10 games. Which is double what our team is doing over the last 12(3-9). We might be lucky to split the final 2 games of this series.

It is important to note that if they can turn it around and start playing better baseball, they still have a lot of games vs. SD & LA & Col

13 more games vs. San Diego, 9 more games vs. LA, and 6 more games vs. Colorado.

More than 1/3 of their remaining games are against their chief division rivals. (I didn't include the Giants, because if we are worried about head to head with them, it's only to stay out of last place)

Obviously they need to play better though. If they don't play better than they have the last month or so, they will be lucky to win 75 games.

Baseball has been so fucking depressing lately. It's hard to watch, hard to listen to and hard to read about. I don't even skim the gameday threads because they are so depressing.

It's like we aren't even watching the same guys we saw tear through the minor leagues and then (start to) show signs of being great or at least good players. Now they just look like plain fucking shit. Snyder, Montero, Drew, Hairston, Young, Quentin (although not with the team anymore) all have OPS+ under 80. Clark is at 83.

A few things:

It sucks that the only young players hitting well are the corner IFs. I know Conor said he'd play OF to get more ABs but what about Reynolds? It would make a hell of a lot more sense than throwing Conor in the OF.

The point is that they are the only young guys doing ANYTHING and all three of them are getting jerked around more than anyone. Reynolds played everywhere but C and CF in the minors yet since he's been here he's played a grand total of THREE innings away from 3B. If he has the versatility FUCKING USE IT!!!! I don't care if Salazar sits on the bench. He's here because the org wanted Quentin in AAA, not because they thought Salazar was the answer.

I know we've talked about how Montero should start over Snyder. My thought is who fucking cares? They both are hitting like shit. Montero's 'superior' OPS of 75 vs. Snyder's 71 is the result of a few singles. BFD if you ask me.

Regardless, I'm still a hopeless optimist. The season has been a roller coaster and we are at the second dip after the second peak. Another peak will come and despite playing like shit the last week or so we haven't lost significant ground. If we find a way, there is no reason why we can't get things going again.

It's probably a stupid question but... as Owings continues to shit all over the mound does anyone see the possibility of Scherzer getting called up? There are no roster issues to deal with. Obviously he needs some time in AA but if he really starts to succeed there, why the hell not? I know JB hinted that he may be slated for relief but why not give it a shot? Maybe he could get by on being unknown for a little while until hitters start figuring him out (like Owings).

I hope Upton doesn't get called up. Please don't do it. Please. Please. Please.

Upton should NEVER put his spikes on any baseball field within range of Kevin Seitzer. We don't need another Seitzerized zombie on the squad.
