Still don't see why Counsell is in the lineup, is Drews hand still bothering him? Or was that just PR bullshit to allow Counsell a start or two?
Anyway here's hoping EnGon can pitch a solid start today. Mon the Snakes! |

yeah.....
I'm not watching this game, or too many others that melvin does not start at least 3 of the following 4 players:
Young, Quentin, Drew, Jackson.
I don't know what he expects to gain by continually benching Quentin. How is he supposed to get his timing playing every other day? He hit the big homer, came back and had a 1-3 day with a walk yesterday.
And why Bring up Montero if he is not going to play? He should be down in Tucson helping out and getting some "playoff atmosphere" experience, because he sure as hell isn't going to get it around here. I would rather they keep him away from Estrada anyway.....who needs THAT guy's attitude rubbing off?
I'm out....taking the family for a drive.
enjoy fellas. |

Nice job by Young on the lead off bb and good bunt and hustle by O-Dawg.
Two on no outs in our 1st. |

2 bb, 3 hits, 4 runs and Moehler's pitch count is at 28 after the top half of one.
Sweet!!!

The Diamondbacks come into today's game with a record of 64-72; the Marlins are 68-68. The Marlins are 8-2 in their last ten games, with a 3-game winning streak; the Dbacks are 2-8, with a 5-game losing streak.
===============================================
RHP Brian Moehler, 7-8 this season, is 5-7 as a starter, and 2-0 as a reliever, the role in which he has been used (apparently) since the end of July. He pitched 83.0 innings in 16 starts through July; and 18.1 innings in 8 appearances in August. He tends to get more ground outs (145-102); has 49 strikeouts and 31 BB. He's thrown 1606 pitches, 1004 for strikes.
Moehler is in his eleventh season (not counting 2004, when he started the season on the DL and spent the rest of the season making 20 starts at the AA level). He is 63-76 lifetime, with a career ERA of 4.70.
Of dubious note: His first career extra-base hit was a double on July 20, 2005, off Greg Aquino of the Diamondbacks...
=============================================
On the starting lineup side of the equation...
Code: |
Player AVG OBP SLG
---------------------------------
Counsell .265 .317 .376
Drew .304 .338 .464
Estrada .304 .332 .471
Snyder .322 .404 .483
Byrnes .241 .294 .434
Quentin .265 .346 .559
|
As others have asked, is Drew injured?
Why is Burnes starting in place of Quentin?
Is Estrada being showcased?
Inquiring minds want to know...
==============================================
OK, it's clear that Moehler can be had; and Enrique starts the bottom of the first with a 4-run lead...

Um..... It's Labor Day. A holiday. A day when people are off work, families are together, yada yada yada. But the game is NOT TELEVISED? An away game on Labor Day is not televised? What brilliant mind came up with this plan?
Fuck the Diamondbacks organization. |

Bummer.
I have the FLA feed on Extra Innings.
Maybe you can head to the corner pub and see the game? |

I suspect it is the time of day -- televised games with 10 am starts are rare.
I can understand that TV-3 in Phoenix wouldn't want to disrupt its weekday morning broadcast schedule, and so would decline to carry the game. However, you'd think that FSNAZ would have jumped at the chance to air this game... But I see that they have "paid programming" right now, and at noon, will air a college football game (Utah at UCLA)...
EDIT NOTE: KTVK-3 is carrying the Jerry Lewis telethon... so no chance they would have carried today's game...

Interesting comment by Candiotti regarding a change he's seen in Enrique's mechanics; specifically, he's not moving his right foot nearly so much as he delivers a pitch. Candiotti and Brennaman believe this gives him improved control -- and it seems to be working, as he's only given up one hit in 3 innings of work, and added a 1-2-3 third inning to his 1-2-3 first. After 3 innings, he's at 38 pitches, 24 for strikes.

See if you can get someone to bet with you and take UCLA. |

3 at bats, 0 hits, 4 left on base. You guessed it, Gonzos numbers. |

Young is hurt... Young is hurt... Young is hurt...
Another (apparently) spectacular over-the-shoulder catch by Chris Young, and an encounter with the wall...
...but he says he's all right...
I hope, I hope, I hope...

I wonder if Eric Byrnes is starting to feel a bit like Shawn Green, now that Chris Young is here?

I'm following the game on radio (only - no TV in our area).
Brennaman reported that Young hit the wall after making a great catch to end the 5th inning, and that Byrnes was signaling for the Dbacks trainer to come out; but Young then got up and ran off, and indicated he was OK.
