Montero, A. Green, Slaten, Aquino, and possibly Choate.

Montero and Green wont see any significant time (A green didnt all year, why is melvin going to start now) 3 relievers will probably help... i think giving slaten a look is a good idea... Why bother with choate? Why not give another guy a chance?

I would assume that players that aren't going to contribute in Tucson will be called up, because I'm sure the FO is more concerned with AAA's success rather than the club's success.

Doesn't a player have to be on the 40-man roster to be called up in September?

That's not an issue for the first four named; but Choate isn't on the 40-man; and, given that he was DFA'd in August and taken off the 40-man at that time, it doesn't make much sense to put him back on at this point... does it?

Not only that -- but this is the list the Gambo was reciting when asked about the call-ups! Twisted Evil

As you said, Choate isn't on the 40-Man, but maybe he meant Daigle?...I dont' know

As of right now, there are 37 men on the 40-man, and this is pending the possiblilty DaVanon could be transferred to the 60-day disabled list, meaning that there will be only 36 spots filled on the secondary roster. So it is possible for Arizona to purchase Choate's contract again if they feel the need to. Maybe even a spot for a SP who isn't on the 40-man like Bacsik when he returns from Cuba, or someone in the lower levels of AA or A

I would much rather see the opportunity created for Slaten, Shultz and Bacsik than Daigle or Choate. (Definitely not Choate...)

I can't see them recalling Choate. There's no reason to. He's not on the 40-man, he has nothing to contribute to a team that's just running out the season (whatever the FO, management, and players say in public), and we already know what he's got. I would be very surprised if we ever see Choate in a DBacks uni again.

They should recall Micah Owings. When he isn't pitching he can pinch hit.

Micah and Livan would be our two best pinch hitters. Confused

I hope they feel free to leave anyone decent they're not planning on using regularly down here until after the playoffs next week.

And God forbid they bring up Bascik. The guys only 12-0 with an ERA under 3.00. I think he's off playing in Cuba right now.

I wouldn't see why at least 3 of the 5 would be pitchers. Our pen is suffering and En Gon needs to be shut down, or at least phased down. We have all the young players who need playing time on the 25 man roster already.

This isn't all the players they're calling up. It's just the first wave. Callaspo and others will be called up after Tucson's season is over.

According to changes made to the Active roster page on the team web site, the following transactions were made.

Randy Choate had his contract purchased
Doug Slaten was recalled from AAA
Miguel Montero was recalled from AAA
Andy Green was activated from the DL

These weren't announced yet on the transactions page, but I'm sure they will be before tomorrow's game.

I don't have a problem with Choate being back on the team. Since we will have two lefties, it will be easier for Melvin to use him as a strict loogy.

query: let's say randy choate had a contract worth, i don't know, 2M. so he gets the 2M, no doubt. but then he gets dfa'd. we still pay him the 2M.

while he toils away in tucson, hopefully learning to suck less, does he just make the 2M salary, or does he also receive the minor league salary?

and when his contract is purchased, does he still just make the 2M, or does he make the 2M plus 330k?

Unless he had a two-way contract (doubtfull) he just gets the $2M, regardless of where he goes. When we DFA'd him he had the option of becoming an FA but if he did that, he'd lose the contract.

" SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS
The D-Backs will add five players today as rosters can be expanded.

The additions, all of whom are coming from the Triple-A Tucson Sidewinders, are pitchers Greg Aquino, Randy Choate and Doug Slaten, utility player Andy Green and catcher Miguel Montero."
