A couple of names I have got some info on:
Rick Porcello RHP, R-R, 6’5, 190, Seton Hall Prep, West Orange, NJ
Porcello wows scouts with an explosive mid-90s fastball that appears to require almost no effort. His lanky build and project able stuff reminds of Justin Verlander, but Porcello will need to improve his breaking ball, a sharp but inconsistent curve, and his fledgling change. In short, Porcello isn’t polished, but he has very real and attainable upside that could turn him into a number one starter somewhere down the line.
Neil Ramirez RHP, R-R, 6’3, 190, Kempsville High School, VA
Ramirez’s stuff is a click below Porcello’s, but he’s the most polished of the bunch. He commands three pitches, starting with a fastball that sits in the low 90s and can jump to the mid-90s once in awhile. His change-up is average now but flashes plus potential, while his curve is already solid pitch that is particularly effective because he throws it at three distinct speeds depending on the hitter and the count. Projects in a number 2 starter or a future ace.
Daniel Moskos, LHP, R-L, 6’2, 200, Clemson.
Closest MLB ready pitcher, 94-96 mph fastball that runs into left-handed hitters and away from righties. His slider is also a plus pitch. Could be in a MLB pen starting in 2008
Matt Main RHP, R-R, 6’2, 185, DeLand High School, Florida
Michael Main has dominating stuff right now Right now, the questions that face Main relate to his lack of experience and innings as a starting pitcher and a high-effort delivery that almost hurts to watch. Main can dial his fastball up to 100 mph on occasion and sits comfortably in the 94-97 mph range but has a tendency to overthrow because of his love for the radar.

Moskos. Another Micah Owings story, with higher potential?
Can he hit as well as Micah?
Moskos looks to be a solid setup guy or closer. And speculation is if signed early could be in a MLB pen at the end of '07!
If it came draft day my board would look like this:
1. Moskos
2. Ramirez
3. Main
4. Porcello
I am intrigued about Ramirez because of his package and every report I read says #2 starter or ace.

i'd put ramirez above moskos, tswinders. i just think starting pitchers have way more value than relief pitchers. and drafting heavily for starters will be okay, because some won't pan out -- just move those guys to the 'pen. but yeah, otherwise, i like your list.

Hank, you're dead to me.
I can definitely agree to that. I think those two pitchers are best of the group.

I think that just means that he'd be MLB ready almost immediately, a la Andrew Miller last season with the Tigers. Not necessarily that he won't eventually be a starter.
Maybe I'm wrong. Levski did earn my draft respect last season by calling Longoria so early on (even with a spotty record up to that point), so minus any research I go with Levski's picks...

Actually, I'm not saying that I'd choose Moskos with the 9th pick in 07. I'm just saying that, given the scouting reports presented in this thread, he would be the guy I'd probably take from this bunch. Would he actually be the guy I take from the pool of ALL available candidates in June? Maybe, maybe not...
So don't quote me as saying that I'd want him in June. Longoria was a different story; I'd spent quite a bit of time researching him last year...
Re: Moskos. He could be a starter if you're patient with him and teach him a solid third pitch to neutralize lefties, most likely a changeup...
With a stocked farm system, it okay to be patient with the HS players and right now BA has HS pitchers Porecello, Main, Harvey, Rameriz all going within the 1st 10 picks mixed in with David Price, Jake Arrieta, Cole St.Clair, Joe Savery, Daniel Moskos and Matt Wieters. D-Backs might benefit ( if you call it that ) with several of the top picks being appointed by Boras. I doubt the D-Backs see any of the elite HS arms left come there time to draft with that 9th pick.
Every year I pick 3 to 5 HS players that sound good based on winter showcase reports and then follow them thru out the season in which they can be drafted. This years players are:
1. Micheal Burgess
2. Jason Heyward
3. Kentrail Davis ( Mobile, Alabama Native)
4. Rick Porcello
5. DJ Jones ( Mobile, Alabama Native)
With only one more Type B agent to effect the Compenation Round the D-Backs have 2 Compensation picks with Max being the 3rd if he doesn't sign. Those picks are the 33rd, 51st, and 64th with Max.
With BA's 1st pre draft coverage they have the D-Backs taking 3rd Baseman Josh Vitters with the 9th overall pick. He is rated the 3 best overall HS position prospect behind Burgess and Heyward.
Remember this year with the amount of Compensation picks a 2nd round pick this year will be in the slots that a 3rd was last year. Lot of teams with be drafting players in favor B.A.P ( Best Aviable Player) over need and signability.
it's a shame i'm too busy at work to start scouting the 2007 draftees...
[edit]
fwiw, main screams mini-neighborgall to me. just a gut feeling...
All the reports I have on him screams Kerry Wood has the stuff to be dominate but injuries will bring him down.

BA had the D-backs taking Julio Borbon OF from Tennessee with the 9th pick. He is being compared to Johnny Damon
Here is BA's preseason Top 10
BA's Pre Season Top 10:
1. David Price
2. Matt Wieters
3. Andrew Brackman
4. Matt Harvey
5. Rick Porcello
6. Daniel Moskos
7. Joe Savery
8. Micheal Burgess
9. Julio Borbon
10. Josh Vitters

that's exactly what the dbacks need, another outfielder...
I've been hoping and praying for a while now that somehow Andrew Brackman falls to #9. Kid sounds like a stud. He's almost as tall as Randy Johnson and supposedly throws as hard already.
there has been a reshuffling of the draft order, as Major League Baseball has announced a change in the sequence of supplemental first-round picks.
In the past, the supplemental first round mirrored the order of the other rounds, with no distinction made between the quality of free agents lost. Now all the compensation picks for Type A free agents (among the top 30 percent at their position) will come before those for Type B free agents (the best 31-50 percent). Choices for failure to sign a first-rounder from the previous draft will continue to come at the end of the first round.
The revised order:
Supplemental First-Round Picks
31. Nationals (Alfonso Soriano, A, to ChC)
32. Giants (Alou)
33. Braves (Danys Baez, A, to Bal)
34. Reds (Rich Aurilia, A, to SF)
35. Rangers (Lee)
36. Cardinals (Jeff Suppan, A, to Mil)
37. Phillies (David Dellucci, A, to Cle)
38. Blue Jays (Justin Speier, A, to LAA)
39. Dodgers (Lugo)
40. Padres (Woody Williams, A, to Hou)
41. Athletics (Barry Zito, A, to SF)
42. Mets (Roberto Hernandez, A, to Cle)
43. Giants (Schmidt)
44. Rangers (Matthews)
45. Blue Jays (Catalanotto)
46. Padres (Dave Roberts, A, to SF)
47. Mets (Chad Bradford, A, to Bal)
48. Cubs (Juan Pierre, B, to LAD)
49. Nationals (Jose Guillen, B, to Sea)
50. Diamondbacks (Craig Counsell, B, to Mil)
51. Giants (Mike Stanton, B, to Cin)
52. Mariners (Gil Meche, B, to KC)
53. Reds (Scott Schoeneweis, B, to NYM)
54. Rangers (Mark DeRosa, B, to ChC)
55. Red Sox (Alex Gonzalez, B, to Cin)
56. Blue Jays (Ted Lilly, B, to ChC)
57. Padres (Alan Embree, B, to Oak)
58. Angels (Adam Kennedy, B, to StL)
59. Athletics (Frank Thomas, B, to Tor)
60. Tigers (Jamie Walker, B, to Bal)
61. Diamondbacks (Miguel Batista, B, to Sea)
62. Red Sox (Keith Foulke, B, to Cle)
63. Padres (Ryan Klesko, B, to SF)
64. Diamondbacks (have yet to sign 2006 first-rounder Max Scherzer)
Originally, the Dbacks were going to get the 33rd overall pick for Counsell. Now they're getting the 50th pick. The Cubs and Nats also get screwed...

This is a serious question: Is there really that much of a difference (50th as opposed to 33rd) when you get that deep into the draft?
