|
|
Jeff Sackmann has an intriguing new way of ranking farm systems, using the approach of John Burnson's "Graphical Player 2007" book (which is linked in the article below, and which I'm planning on getting)...
http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/ranking-organizations/
Worth reading, and I love the graphical representations. As they say, one picture is indeed worth a thousand words. Some excerpts:
Quote: |
According to this system, the Diamondbacks have the greatest concentration of offensive "studs." They have 11 guys who are 90th-percentile or better against their age group; in other words, nearly 25% of their system is in the top 10% of minor leaguers. The Mets also stand out, with nine studs.
...
Here are the top five farm systems for hitters:
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
2. Arizona Diamondbacks (trailing the Dodgers by less than 1%)
3. Colorado Rockies
4. Cleveland Indians
5. San Diego Padres
The top five for pitchers:
1. Minnesota Twins
2. Cleveland Indians
3. Chicago Cubs
4. Philadelphia Phillies
5. Milwaukee Brewers
Putting it all together, here's how each team's farm system ranks:
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
2. Cleveland Indians
3. Arizona Diamondbacks
4. Chicago Cubs
5. Milwaukee Brewers |
The future is bright....

We had better hope that Coletti wiil be as frivilous with his bounty of prospects as we suspect.

4 in the top 5 for hitters, but none for pitching....... looks like the NL West will have some high scoring teams in the next few years..

It's going to be a tough division in years to come. Every team seems to have really good young talent, except the Giants where Zito is going to start thinking he's reliving Ground Hog's Day on RJ's 2004 season. |

Some farms can get pretty rank, especially in the Valley during the summer.
