Given Conor's second half, I think he is going to have a breakout year offensively, including a decent uptick in his power. Thus, I voted up.

Voted up. Think he'll experience minimum increases in OBP and OPS.

I see his BA up by 10-20 points, his OBP up by even more, and I think he will clock in around .850-.875 OPS overall. And thats with only a minor increase in homeruns.

the keystone guy to everyone, if he's over 850-900 and in the three hole all year, and the pitching is there, the team is winning. If drew's in front I predict he's matching him ops wise. Drew having a higher slg.

Absolutely up, and it better be up. We have enough of a lack of power that we can't afford a 1B that has an OPS below .800 in a hitters park.

Except that according to the paper today, Drew is slated to hit in the seven hole, with Conor batting #5. Apparently, Hudson will hit #2, Tracy #3, and Byrnes #4. They are the closest thing to PV's the D-backs have, so BoMel (thinks he) needs to showcase them as much as possible...

That article had what will be their 3 best 2007 hitters in the 5, 6 and 7 slots: Jackson, CQ & Drew.

I see jackson having a monster year with improvements across the board.

.300+ average... 15-20 homers

20 up and 0 down?

I rescind my previous vote on principle alone. If we're this much in agreement, than it's a lock for a sophomore slump.

Well, I'm emendable, with these guys, I'll give Dylan's (Dr. Barbay2) version that line-ups don't matter a try. Now, I like structure, and like guys to in spots that synergizes their abilities.

Hudson last year for instance became Gonzo like with 2 strikes. If he continues on with his ability, to work the two strike count, and get base hits, and maybe increase his bb/ab rate, he could become an elite lead-off guy. NOw there's more to Hudson story as well...I wouldn't want him to worry about increasing his bb rate, if he led off, I'd keep keyed in on what he was doing last year...

Nick P mentioned Atkins to me as a potential Jackson comp......JB turned him on to that.

I mentioned this in a comment over at Jims site a couple of days ago....

Love it

Jackson - Pop plus eye
Quentin - power plus gets hit
Young - speed and power, little avg...

Get some pitching and the diamond backs are ready.

Dr. Barbay was a "security expert". A Frenchman who argued against the telegraph because he reckoned that it would be too easy for 19th century French terrorists (ca 1840s) to cut the electric cables and de facto leave France without any means of communication.

Instead, he advocated the semaphore, because you could protect the semaphore with stone walls and guards and guns.

I gather Dangerfield calls us Dr Barbay 1 and 2 because WE argue against his super-progressive (nay, revolutionary) projection system that has Eric Byrnes hitting .300 with 23 walks, 100 strikesouts, and 25+ homers out of the 7th (and only 7th!) spot in the lineup.

My guess is up. I hope it comes in the form of SLG%.

it wouldn't surprise me, if he did hit 30 next year, or even a few times in his career. He'll have more power than a similar hitter, who is one of the greatest hitters of all time. It wouldn't surprise, if he was closer to 400 hr's, by the end of his career, over 300 for sure.

I finally figured it out. Jackson is a poor man's Eric Karros, but with a higher OBP, less SLG. I'm sure this can be shredded with stats, etc., but they just seem to have very similar games, swings (although CJ is more squatted), fielding styles, etc.

I think that CJ is a 20-25 HR, plus OBP guy. He just doesn't seem to have the natural pop and ability to be a consistent 30+ HR player. But he's a great player to have at a controlled price. Hopefully we can develop a guy that makes us think that we can lose CJ and be just fine.
