Both have a shot at becomming the first third baseman to lead all major leaguers in errors since Bobby Bonilla did it with Pittsburgh back 1989...............
Bonilla, a converted outfielder, had 35 errors in that season..............
Both Tracy and AROD have 22 E's this year. It could be close............
They have to look out for Rafael Furcal of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Carlos Guillen of Detroit and Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks for the lead though. Weeks will miss the remainder of the season because of a wrist injury so that helps....................

I posted this in the gameday thread but I'll summarize here. Tracy has 21 errors. The rest of the team has 54. |

If Weeks played the whole season it wouldn't be close. |

Tracy is on pace to produce nearly 150 K's this year, which is a truly grotesque number, but would anybody venture a guess as to what the most K's is ever by a 3B in a single season?
Mike Schmidt in 1975 K'd 180 times setting the all-time record for a 3B. However, Schmidt did hit 38 HR's that year, while Tracy is on pace to hit just 20 HR's this season along with his 150 K's. |

i just do not believe tracy is this bad -- offensively or defensively. he's had streaks where he's good in the field, he had a year where he was good on offense, and while i don't believe he'll ever field like he did for the first two weeks permanently, nor do i believe he'll really hit like 05 again consistently, he just ain't this bad.
something's gotta be up. something's gotta be wrong. he isn't this terrible. |

Yeah, I don't think that Tracy is this bad, either. Hopefully this season is an anamoly, and he improves over the next few years. I remember being very fired up when we locked him up to a multi-year deal, and I'd hate to see Tracy drift into mediocrity.

you've got to look at all the evidence, though, not just the current waddling. the guy has had good minor league seasons, good major league seasons, and one really ugly one. i'm just saying -- his peak probably isn't as high as we were hoping given last year, but his true talent level probably isn't this low, either. if it is, his entire career up to now has been the fluke. that just seems weird. |

I'd like to think that Tracy is better than he's shown himself to be but so far he's had one amazing season and two average seasons. |

At least his contract is reasonable enough that we could move him if we had to. I'm not saying we move him, but he's not un-moveable. |

Tracy has a very reasonable contract. He'll make 4.75M the year before FA (well below what a descent player would get in his final year) |

I personally think this year is just a fluke. But if it isn't, who do we use instead of Tracy at third? Callaspo and Counsell would definately be a defensive improvement over Tracy, but in the long term, they wouldn't have enough offense to stick there. If Mark Reynolds turns out to be legit, he certaintly could be a solution. Two other guys who we could look at are Jamie D'antona or Brian Barden. Another answer would be to move Upton from CF to Third, especially if all our OF prospect pan out.
Any other thoughts?

I hate to keep harping on this because I hope Tracy IS the answer. But if he's not Brian Barden is htting around .300 in Tucson (which is his low for the year) and from all accounts has a Gold Glove-type fielding percentage. Maybe they'll call him up after Sept 1st and give him a few starts to see what he's got. |

I like the idea of Barden. Is he a RH or LH? |
